Hedge Hox Idea

Recommended Posts

I wish Don't Starve had my favorite animal... The hedgehog! So I believe that Hedgehog's should be in the game. They have 240 Health, 13 attack (if harmed), has 22, and 31 defense (If curled up in a ball.)

They drop morsel, and can be tamed! If tamed the get 260 health, follow you, and kill enemies. They run away if they are below 60 health. They attack by rolling up into a ball, and flinging them self's at enemies. They are tamed by feeding them berries, and glommer wings, (Hedgehogs eat flies, and insects.) They must always feed them, and they eat ALMOST ANYTHING you give it. Killing it will give you 7-10 naughtiness. They will damage you, or enemies if hit. I also think it should have a don't starve charm to it, so make it a Hedge Hox! Has the Tail, Ears, and Nose of a Fox! And Every thing else of a African Pigmy Hedgehog!

Now don't take this personally. This is coming from someone who is so wild about hedgehogs that I owned one for three years straight. And furthermore, it's just my opinion. I just stretch my opinions out over a lot of text.

New mobs are awesome, but they should have purpose. The reason this game rocks so much is that every item, flower, tree, rock, and animal has a (different!) reason for existing, adding a beautiful design and balance to the game. The new catcoons, for example, will provide you with some combat assistance in the early days of the game, should you choose to protect them, and if not, some warmth for those chilly days of winter. Your hedgehog idea is basically just a catcoon with a Rock Lobster's slightly tweaked method of protection.

What I'm saying is, it's by no means a bad idea, (though feeding Glommer wings to tame it sounds like a sort of out-there idea) but it needs a reason for existing other than simply looking cool and adding to the atmosphere of the game. My suggestions to you are:

1) Give it a/some unique drop(s)! Perhaps some hedgehog spines, used to craft armor that deals some damage back to the attacker. :D

2) Make it a bigger, and more unique threat. Right now, it sounds like people will see the mob and say, "Oh cool, I found a Hedgehox." Make them say, "OH SHOOT IT'S A HEDGEHOX NOPE", like they do when they see hounds, or a Deerclops. :D

3) This one's a bit far fetched compared to the others, but make it guard something. Create something that players will want to find and use, but have to get past these hard-to-fight Hedgehoxes first. Such as Chess Pieces guard the Wooden Thing, or that setpiece that has the hounds guarding it...

So that's all I had to say. They just don't seem to have a reason to be put into the game currently other than looking cool. Meanwhile, everything else in the game looks cool and has a purpose. Give 'em a purpose is what I say. :D

I had that spiny armor idea but i thought it was op, but maybe that can work, or how about if you kill enough of them a Giant one can emerge from the ground and attack, (Like Krampus)

What if in the under ground biome there can be a Hedgehog Giant, like a spider queen, it works with its species. It can be a boss, and drop Giant Spines and it is a necessary to craft Quilled  Armor.
