How do you create your art?

I'm not a modder, but I'd like to give it a try. At the very least, I'd like to create a few of my own skins for Don't Starve. I've seen a lot of great character art, and I was wondering how artists go about it. Like most of the art in the game, the best skins look hand drawn. What sort of programs do the artists here use for creating their character skins/portraits? Or are they actually hand drawn and scanned in?

Photoshop, gimp and SAI are a few great programs, and most artists like myself own drawing tablets to draw with. So thats probably why they look hand drawn, because well they are!

Start off by teaching yourself GIMP. It's completely free and similar to Photoshop.
