Misaki
I know it sounds crazy, and bear with me here, but some people like things you dislike. I know, I know - it's insanity, but maybe you should just leave them to their preferences even though they're obviously plebeians and not as pro as you.I was refering to the fact that that he said that *large* herd took deerclops down, because well, pretty much everything with a large herd can take down deerclops.I even made it bigger, and red for you guys. ScaryMonster
It wasn't me who said that. I was just being snarky since you're very condescending. One thing I really like about this game is how it can be played in many different ways. In fact, non-optimization strategies tend to produce more fun and take longer to get boring. There are some people trying to play vegetarian, for example. I like to renew my forests and focus on small meat gathering. I also prefer to run to beefalo or other groups for protection from hounds rather than fighting them myself - it's partly because I didn't know the fight mechanics well, but also because it made me mindful of the ecology of the world (something that continues to impress me with its design). Playing with a focus on positive interactions with a species is a great way to bring story and roleplaying into the game to enrich it. JadedMeiji
Meh I like the herds they are my security blanket for those freak visits after culling my village for more pigskins and then getting attacked by hounds which I think 12 at time come at me now? So using the beefalos thins them out or at least spreads them out so I don't get pinned down and slaughtered Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/32174-is-there-a-way-to-make-beefalo-more-tanky-during-mating-season/page/2/#findComment-426281 Share on other sites
Dekay
Well I'm guessing the herd was large (day 120 or so) I wasn't there at the time. It so happened that I took note when I was leading the dogs down there. "oh look! a deerclops eye!". Seemed pretty cool to me at the time but I reckon you have better methods of dealing with deerie, w/e, rock on! emerphish
Pigs seem better, but wool is easier to get than wood unless you are Woodie. (omg I just now understand his name) Also it is signifigantly harder to make all those pig houses out of nonrenewable stone. Wilton
Let's get back on topic guys. If you guys want to argue about "beefalo vs pigman" why not make a new topic instead of doing it here -_-" It's just that, when mating season hits, they usually almost always die off from wandering into a hornet's nest, or getting gang-raped by Toads. Is there a way to make them more resilient during mating season so that they won't go extinct during the first year? There is no way to make them tanky. If you want them out of trouble then just build walls to stop them from wandering around, or you can be their guardian angel and kill every hostile mobs near them even though you're going to get yourself killed by doing that Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/32174-is-there-a-way-to-make-beefalo-more-tanky-during-mating-season/page/2/#findComment-435974 Share on other sites

I don't trust pigs to deal with hounds, because they're usually in bed when the hounds arrive. Fighting them off on my own is still difficult for me because I keep forgetting to make traps and fighting off multiple ones with just my man hands is too difficult without getting hit, so I just run into the beefs and let them stomp the dogs. It's also safer to discard fire hounds on the fields because they tend to burn everything when close to the pigs, especially in RoG where nothing is fireproof. Plus, Beefalo are just cute and make funny sounds. I love them. Plus, Beefalo are just cute and make funny sounds. I love them.Pigs are such un-neighborly neighbors; not only are they not there to help with hounds, but they turn OFF their house light when you come by trying to escape Charlie (completely the opposite of normal people with motion-sensor lights!). I just love watching the Beefalo. The young uns are especially adorable when they practice charging! I also got to enjoy watching a teenager explode into an adult once. I really felt bad that I had to hunt them this latest go-round in Adventure Mode (King of Winter, no rabbits at all!). Suggestion for the OP: I actually moved a herd for the first time, and it worked pretty well (although I had to kill one to get the horn!). Of course, if you do it during mating season, then you probably should have a hat... If it's frogs that are a problem, just go and catch a bunch periodically to keep their numbers down. I actually prefer to collect frogs than rabbits because they move faster - I can easily scoop up 20 in a day if there are lots of ponds together.
