Is there a way to make Beefalo more "Tanky" during mating season?

Recommended Posts

It's just that, when mating season hits, they usually almost always die off from wandering into a hornet's nest, or getting gang-raped by Toads.

Is there a way to make them more resilient during mating season so that they won't go extinct during the first year?

That's sounds like a pain, and I agree with misaki. Or if you're feeling up to the wind you could always kite them far away, im not sure it they will migrate back to the last area they grazing, but it's worth a shot...also, if you're not too far into sandbox you could just delete and restart, I died so many times when I first started it loses it's clench...

Why do you even need beefalo?

For protection? - Rocky Lobsters are much better and they breed faster, and they have like six times more health and attack much harder.

For meat? - You can always feed four monster meet to pig and kill it, without aggroing it's herd.

For fire from their wool? - You know that there is wood?

For wool for hats? - There is thing called sewing kit, you might want to try that.

Befallo's are pain in the arse, don't bother with them.

Because beefalo are just endearing for some people?

I agree that building walls seem the best idea though, if the herd starts wandering. You could build an incomplete room with a 2-space exit, then chase a couple of baby beefalo in and close it up. They should stay around that area once they grow up, which should artificially "create" another herd in a safer area.

Poop. Everyone needs poop. It is one of the most critical elements of our society, and I for one, am not going to venture into caves just to get bat poop. Beefalo poop is much easier to get.

Look, I have twelve pig houses, they are made like this:

So they sorround area, and I have over sixty berry bushes, look:

So...

Berry bush can be harvested around four times.

After one full harvest I drop whole stack inside piggo circle, after some time, it is all manure, and I can use it to fertilize berry's again or something else, like farming.

So no beefalo's are needed.

Majestic base AND ruins visited in just 77 days?

That's witchcraft.

You mean the thulecite?

Oh, I was just preparing to return in order to fix crafting monument.

This thulecite was lying in the chest for like fifteen days.

I don't have the patience to collect that many berry bushes at all, let alone day 77

Just run around with shovel and dig some stuff up, it's not difficult...

Also, Pigs will never start attacking you without reason, and you do not have to wear a fancy hat to approach them, and they make poop much faster... and you do not have to run around...

But Beefalo feel so much more... Natural... It's probably just a personal preference though. Maybe it's because they're more of an all-in-one resource rather than a specific positive aspect. Sometimes being all around can help make something a more valuable asset.

Wait a second, did you said that Beefalo's were all-in-one animals?

Nope.

Pigs offer:

1.Protection.

2.Weapons.

3.Armour.

4.Meat.

5.Manure.

Not to mention, they don't need to be babysitted, if you kill one, next one is just waiting to respawn, they also don't mind if you slaugher one of their brethren, as long as you turned them into monsters, they also, as I said earlier, are never in heat, and you don't need to lure anything to them, they just attack anything they see as threat, even if it's neutral to them (treeguards)

Beefalo come in massive herds though(if you let them breed that is), have significantly more health than any individual pig, do slightly more damage than any pig, give lots of meat when killed without having to stock up on monster meat (which I really only gather large supplies of every so often), and don't require me to give them food to produce manure. I will give you props in that I can't use Beefalo to make armor, but I can use them to make warm gear for winter. I can see why you would want to use pigs more though, even I using them as well, but you should also understand that I can use Beefalo for most of the same reasons you use pigs.

Back to the OP:  I'm guessing that you're concerned when there is a small herd?  I never tried it, but maybe a combination of walling off dangerous areas and moving them with a horn (dropped from one of the killed beefalo) could work.  It would be fun to roleplay a beefalo conservation effort to keep the game interesting!

Dude why are you arguing against beefalo so vehemently. Some people like them and find them useful. Let them be.

^That.

Misaki's strategy just is more on accomplishing what-is-most-efficient, but honestly some people like the beefalo / maintaining the less useful wildlife simply because it's fun to do so, or find them cute.

Yes, pigs are recruitable, respawn much faster, provide crazy amount of poops (I personally have just 20 bushes and they work fine), auto-attack hounds/many other enemies, football helmets and various other things (like meat). But they aren't as cute and amusing as beefalo, that's my personal take on it. :-)

But beefalo have adorable baby beefalo to chase around, you can shave them to make them sad and burn them in their sleep. Not to mention gigantic herd sizes providing insane meat drops if Deerclops arrives, lol. Just make sure to help out so they don't all die.

O RLY?

I know it sounds crazy, and bear with me here, but some people like things you dislike.

I know, I know - it's insanity, but maybe you should just leave them to their preferences even though they're obviously plebeians and not as pro as you.
