Deacon_Blue
Does anyone ever set up a permanent base in Adventure Mode instead of Sandbox? This is my first time playing through AM and some of these maps seem like they would be pretty fun to settle permanently into. On a semi-related note - how long do chapters of AM usually take? I'm spending 15-20 each which is probably a bit much, but I like setting up a small base when possible. Deacon_Blue
Ended up beating it without much issue. Question stands though, anyone have a permanent setup on any of the AM worlds? ARamblingSpider
That kinda goes against the point of Adventure mode. Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29813-adventure-mode-worlds/#findComment-373507 Share on other sites
d2r
That kinda goes against the point of Adventure mode. Yeah, but no reason not to try. I mean, come on. It's an interesting proposal. I, personally, set up one in "Two Worlds" and camped there until I got bored of playing SimCity and felt like moving on. "A Cold Reception" would be interesting, as resources there are often extremely poor and non-conductive to long-term survival. Let's not even go into "King of Winter" or "Darkness". If you feel like making a permanent go at it, you might consider using the custom settings to make a world similar to one of the adventure ones and trying your luck (Rain: more, Frogs: lots, Berries: none, Carrots, twigs & grass: less will give you something similar to Cold Reception) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29813-adventure-mode-worlds/#findComment-373738 Share on other sites
Nyx_Overkill
Two worlds is the most suitable. Its just a perfect-to-live map.Game is a foot is also friendly for base.King of Winter and Darkness i could say that its interesting to set a base and test your skills heheHow i run the adventure:1st world was a cold reception.i stayed there for 60d about,i invented everything that could possibly need in the next worls and also prepared materials and food for the next world.Next was King of Winter.i had prepared stuff so i passed this world asap and moved to next world.Next was Two worlds,i gathered some food and supplies for the pandemonium part of this world and also for the next world.4th world a game is afoot.quite easy world i could say, before jump to final world, again gathered carefully and without rush stuff food and meterial so i can survive Darkness.Last world Darkness.... Find portal and pieces ASAP!!! Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/29813-adventure-mode-worlds/#findComment-373852 Share on other sites

Sporb
This would definitely be fun to try, and I think the only world it would be impossible on would be The King of Winter, because things don't regrow in winter. Darkness would be tough, but, if you bring the proper supplies (bird and pre-built birdcage, Tam o' Shanter), it could probably be done. Personally, though, I... don't really like setting up a permanent base anywhere. Once I get a base established and it starts getting easy to survive I lose interest and I often stop playing that world. However, the adventure mode worlds I remember setting up a base and living in the longest are: -The King of Winter. I survived for, like, 80-90 days. This was before they fixed it so that stuff wouldn't regrow in the winter, before I knew how to get past obelisks, and before the divining rod was added. -A Cold Reception. I don't remember how long I've lived in this one, but I remember establishing a decent (by my standards anyway) base. Yeah, I don't really like to build anything very elaborate. -Archipelago. I went through the whole winter, so that is about 36 days at least. I had a decent base, but I didn't want to stay after I had gathered enough jerky. I think I've lived a while on The Game Is Afoot and Two Worlds as well, but I don't remember specifically. It's been a while since I've played. I know my brother survived for a long time in the Epilogue. I should ask him how he did it. Deacon_Blue
Obviously making a permanent base on Two Worlds would be a cakewalk. I was mostly thinking about Archipelago when posting this. I didn't have a pig king or any cave entrances, so tools in the long run would have been the biggest issue as far as I can tell. Is there any way to make a sandbox world in any similarity to Archipelago? While one could set up land loop preferences, not sure if that in any way affects directly or not "island" areas by wormhole only. Any modders care to weigh in on this? All I can say is: before All's Well that Maxwell, a mod certainly couldn't do such a thing (in fact, survival maps were forced to be connected). In the release notes for Maxwell, however, under modding was stated that we can "have a little more control over internal connectedness", so possibly, but I haven't looked into this change (though the "little" in that statement is not very promising ;P). Sporb
I don't think you can make islands, but you can make a world that is shaped a bit like a long snake. I think I've done it by setting land branch to none and land loop to always. This is a little bit like Archipelago because it makes wormholes very useful for travel. Without taking wormholes, it takes a long time to get anywhere, and you don't really have any way to avoid hazards (MacTusk, swamps, etc.) along the way. Unfortunately, it's still not as unique as Archipelago. As long as you leave ready for the next world as prepared as possible, you're doing it right.
