Silentdarkness1 Attempts to become good at Don't Starve

Nope. Had to go back and get my stuff. And just as i'm ready to leave, I am STOOPID enough to explore some more. And I run straight into the ANCIENT GUARDIAN. FFFFUUUUUDGEEE. DAMNIT.

That's always been the death of me. "I'm gonna explore just a little bit more..." *Runs out of food and nearly freezes.*

You know you can avoid the guardian right?

The terrain screwed me in the rear. Once he found me, it was too late to get past him. So....I manned teh f**k up, put on a marble suit, and boss moded him. VICTOREH.

*Runs for surface as fast as possible*

DAMNIT. I died. Lost all my touchstones and meat effigies due to TALLBIRDS.....a spider warrior, and freezing. And then final death was because of the health penalty towards summoning shadow maxwells. GOD..

Well, this is how you get better.  Screw things up, play again, don't do the thing that didn't work before.

This is why I do things like clear spiders with traps rather than going Conan the barbarian on them.

Fat lot of good it would've done. Ninja spider is ninja. I wan't attacking a den or anything...

Shrug, it happens.

Play as Wickerbottom, make a bunch of 'On Tentacles' books, go to a swamp or wherever there's lots of spiders, summon tentacles right on the nests until your brain starts crying, then sit back and laugh at spiders getting slapped around.  Works for merms too, plus you get food.

Bleh. I think my preferred chara is now either Wendy or Maxwell.

I played Maxwell before he got his book, and I really liked not having to worry about sanity.  It made caving sooooo much easier.  I gave him a dapper vest and a tam o shanter one time just to see what happened.  His low HP made him hard to keep alive sometimes, but the risk is what makes it fun.

I don't think I've ever played Wendy.  Have to give it a go.

Actually, the cave level that genned for me was VERY VERY sparse on spiders. Which is both good news....and creepy as heck. The only major spider areas was around the hole to the ruins. Is that natural?

Random i think.I have 3 entrances. The second was just somewhere in the end of nothing. The third was just a few meter from the main cave entrance. And the first was in an area infested with 50 about nests. So the place were generated so many spider that i thought to leave this cave forever.Until i thought this:i took with me 3 spider queen heads.I went on that mesh with more than 100 spiders around.i equiped head and i commanded 10 spiders to attack rest spiders, then unequip for a while the head so dont lose it very quick.Repeated again for many times.Meanwhile i was destroying nests while spiders were fighting each other. Also abigail helped a lit bit cause i spawn her and throw her to the black mass of endless spiders to cause massive pain :p Area totally cleared :)

Preferred method is similar to Maxwell, because Wendy hits weaker than most characters. Maybe get some pig friends, and Abigail, and have them take care of business.

Trust me, it is. Going in spear ready with Maxwell, going in spear ready with Wendy......both not preferable.

that's one aspect, can't really generalise it. besides combat is different as those two, with max its all about avoiding damage, with wendy its about making sure you maximise the amount of hits you get so you can dish out as much damage as possible

with wendy its about making sure you maximise the amount of hits you get so you can dish out as much damage as possible

With Wendy, it's about making sure Abigail helps you kill things for as long as possible.

and you just agreed with me by contradicting your prior statement

i tend to ignore Abigails influence (unless I think it is relevant) since they aren't always around

@Craig_Perry I don't think so. Look, bottom line is: as Wendy, you're doomed in a direct fight with anything that is a serious threat, even more so if you don't bring tough armor.

@TeoSS69 if I ever build up a big enough pig farm, i'll try that.

I think I can argue with that after a 228 day run as Wendy and a day 50 one in progress. But I have no motivation to bother writing all the things I remember

Then try to tank Deerclops with Wendy, a log suit and a ham bat. And then survive the rest of the winter afterwards.

Ham Bat does 44 damage with Wendy. Don't underestimate her. Also you only need one Pig House to keep the Bat going. Kill a Werepig every 10 days and you'll be set.

It's all fun and games until you get Tallbird-pecked to death in the middle of winter.
