Hello,

 

As we see with the Screetcher Mod, Don't Starve have a lot of potential for create a new game with the vanilla version.

 

Here's my idea : make a Real-time Strategy Game (RTS) based on Don't Starve universe.

 

General concepts

 

- Player play as Maxwell (not the character but as the "god" who control the world).

 

- Player have to choose which faction he want control.

 

- Four factions : Beefalos, Pigs, Spiders, Merms.

 

- The goal is to eradicated the three other factions or reach a ressource level.

 

 

Factions mechanics

 

Beefalos

 

They live in the Savanna Biome that they want to extend to the entire world. To survive, they need to eat some grass and they can only reproduce in the savana.

 

As Maxwell, you can destroy the other biome with the help of the beefalo to create new savanna biome. You can also plant new grass turf.

 

Beefalo never venture out the savanna. Sometines, Hound attack them.

 

 

Pigs

 

They live in the Forest biome and they want to kill all of the merms that destroy her biome. To survive, they need to eat fruit or veggies.

 

As Maxwell, you can create farm plot and plant new tree to extend the forest. Also, you can ask to the pig to create new houses.

 

Pigs never venture so far from there house because they afraid at night. 

 

 

Spider

 

They live in the Rocky Biome and like to kill every other form of life. To survive, they need to eat some meat. 

 

As Maxwell, you can create some rabbit hole and create some new rocky biome. Also you can ask to the spiders to create new dens but only on a spider's web ground or close another den.

 

At day, spider never venture far from their den.

 

At night, spider can venture in any biome.

 

 

Merms

 

They live in the swamp biome and like to kill every pigs that live in the world. To survive, they need to eat some Monster Meat.

 

As Maxwell, you can ask to the merms to create some new broken house and  you can extend their biome. Tentacles respawn are improved.

 

At day, merm never venture far from their house.

 

At night, merm can venture only in their biome.

So, a conversion into a RTS...

 

You should rework the workable component so that everything takes longer to break, but gives you more loot. That way, you have to send a few units to each resource, and you'll be able to use the resources you obtain to improve their offense/defense/speed/efficiency with items crafted from the loot.

 

Also, you wouldn't have to write a leveling/skill system that way. (Although some sort of skill system, say, one special skill for unit type, would be cool.)

Resource gathering, captured points, found in wild, or crafted farms?

 

Also mechanics behind the gathering: automatic once resources is found(ed), units sent in and dedicated to gathering.

 

If units are sent in to gather, do they need to return to a stockpile or base, or will the gathered material simply appear on the gui in an usable state?
