Later on I personally use carpets to help align and measure stuff (gotta keep in mind the offset portion of the pattern, though). I've also heard about the Architectural Geometry or whatever mod, which automatically aligns stuff to a grid-line. I can't help but feel this method will cause bugs/limit your options... Out of every single one I've tried, that's the only one I can't go without. Or at least, I wouldn't bother trying to make grass farms/drying racks anymore.
