Four legged character? Is it possible?

So the question appeared in the title, but I will go into further details.

 

I am trying to create a character which will start out as a "human" and has the ability to transform into a four legged animal, is this possible?

possible yes but extremely difficult as lots and lots of custom animations would be needed

Or you could just use any of the existing animation sets for four-legged creatures and transform like Woodie does.

Heavenfall you are on the right track, but I am thinking more along the lines of creating my own animation files for the four legged creature as it will be a small animal.
