logatocassie Posted July 6 Share Posted July 6 (edited) This is just my personal thought on the matter. specifically after the recent update with the Sanctum. I'll start with this - Technically speaking, the only 'real' way to get an Iridescent Gem is by doing the moonstone defense event. and I love it. it adds a time-gate to a resource. but looking at it more closely. realistically, only 1 is ever truly needed. to power the archives. I am talking in terms of progression, not just the 'want' to make more mooncaller staff's. then we have the 'bypass'. this is currently only with Wilson who can effectively create that gem and completely bypassing the moonstone event and the need to deconstruct the staff. Now there is an additional way. to just take one from the Sanctum... right? right now there are only 2 uses for the Iridescent Gem. one is to power the archives, and the other is with Crab King to make the fight more challenging. why not give more? what if the Sanctum Smithy can allow the creation of Iridescent Gem's? what if we can have more uses for the gems as well? maybe create a new type of Telocator Staff that works with the Portation Orb Fragments? or just add new stuff to use the gems for. maybe control the weather? if its a 'power source' maybe allow us to use with with other, already created devices, for new effects? just random thoughts i had while playing in the sanctum and seeing 3 Iridescent Gem's just sitting there... mocking me... Summons a powerful freezing miniature 'star' yet had no other alternatives up to today. Iridescent gem is a Wilson exclusive craft and it is a huge bypass on an event and great for those that enjoy rushing through the archive knowledge to get to the moon boss quicker. Despite that, that's where it just kinda ends. Why not have Winona be able forever-power her gemerator with those? Does pearl have no knowledge in where that could be used? Maybe could use the opal in some decorative sense? Or use it to upgrade some basic items? Pearls tea's is largely overlooked... can be really OP... its a shame its currently at 'end game' phase, as you need so much to get to it... but back to my point about the Iridescent gem... I really hope there would be mode uses for it. and perhaps have a more reliable way to obtain it? Correct me if I'm wrong, but the only thing it's used to actively craft is Wickerbottom's Lunar Grimoire? Which is odd, why only a character specific item?? We could use it to craft cool base game armour that you could repair or smth, so many options. Mike23Ua Posted July 7 Share Posted July 7 An “upgraded” version of an Ice Staff which requires the Ice Staff & the Gem that leaves a slippery ice trail on the ground for enemies to fall like walking over pengul nests or a Deerclops style Ice Spike or both would be dang “Cool” 😎 what’s interesting to mention is that Klei actually added some new animations to existing mobs that could be repurposed to have them slip and fall on ice, the best example I can give of that: Is when Wigfrid uses the Elden Spear to “Dash” through a Clockwork Rook. Actually, wicker’s full moon book use it in recipe.
