Baark0
Nitre and especially flint are always resources that I've never figured out good ways to farm lots of outside of forest pretrification, which takes forever to actually occur. Flint is especially important because its the only way to kill Antlion, who is otherwise quite the nuisance, and road turfs need a lot of if you want to do any large scale road projects. Nitre is less important but its still useful for a handful of things like flares, gunpowder, and collected dust for thulecite bug nets. I'm not looking for any method in particular, however I'd prefer methods that are more active than waiting for earthquakes, meteors, boulderboughs, and tree petrification. Also no swapping to Wilson because 1) I'm lazy and 2) I'm playing WX so all my chassis would become unlinked and thats a hassle to fix. YouKnowWho142
Depends on your stage of the game, back before Winona’s skill tree I used to relocate every moleworm I could find into a single corner. At dusk, you can dig their burrow which will cause them to almost immediately make a new one, and the chances of it being nitre are pretty high. I farmed several stacks of nitre this way and didn’t rely on waiting for any of the things you mentioned. I dunno how viable this is still though 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172423-how-to-farm-nitre-and-flint-outside-of-swapping-to-wilson/#findComment-1873524 Share on other sites
Walrusst
Ok so. Boulderboughs. Once you get late enough in the game to spincycle you can safely harvest them. One thing I've been lazy to test but want to test is if I can use them to harvest pigs instead though because if one frog leg is enough to earn a piece of meat and the boulderboughs drops that alchemy has the efficiency that wilson can only dream of. If pigs are too smart to harvest boulderboughs that's a shame though. Just the overworld forest has a 20% chance of each of the 4 drops being what you want, and a free twig comes with it. Mosaic gives you a 25% shot at it. Marsh is a peak secondary biome as while it doesn't give what you want renewable tentacle spots and free silk lets you use hipster items that nobody ever considers and I think that makes you a really cool person for remembering you can do this. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Alternative methods a bit weirder but here me out. Knock out moleworms and dig up their nest, log out then log back in to break their desire to go home and drop them off in a fenced off area, you can dig up their holes and they will remake their holes in the fenced area. Kidnapping cave loot moleworms and fencing them in the overworld will have the same vague effect. Each burrow has a 40% chance of giving you your prize. Less time efficient, you are effectively taking one tool use for 1 resource instead of killing a pig for free for a twig and four random rocks that are probably what you want. I recommend pig murder if you can do it. The idealized pig farm boulderbough plantation is not something I've tested though but my utopian dreams will not be stopped. (Unimportant side note, in the winter you can use this hole digging behavior on tallbirds too by burning their nest after stealing their eggs, you can put them in a fenced off bunker next to non-fence destroying entities you want dead say you trick them into a wall house next to frog ponds during winter so they end up in a fenced off bunker where they kill all the frogs from inside, or next to rabbit hutches that are also fenced in so they murder the rabbits every day for a free carrot or otherwise. The tallbird bunker is a pretty useful farm so long as you move the tallbird in a season where its unable to die by accident. You could raise new smallbirds to tallbirds too if you wanted more tallbird killboxes but that sounds like too much work for this marine mammal.) Frashaw27
Nitre is actually pretty easy as the Shadow Rifts' Acid Rain will make the pools make Nitre Formations that give 3-4 per pop. It's more manual but it also remains active the entire time acid rain is up and there is typically a lot of ponds that will acidify and can then last you a decent while. Flint is a lot trickier. While you said you didn't want to rely on earthquakes, you can instead force them using the Ancient Guardian to slam into pillars and collect them while weaving. You can also do kinda the same with telelocator staffs/blowing up gunpowder and snurtle slime to also force earthquakes. I think one of the biggest questions is why Antlion can only be fightable once given them a Thermal Stone. While it works for early game, I could see Klei adding a new method late game that allows you to bypass it, like if a nearby Ice Crystaleyezer opens up the ability to fight Antlion on sight. 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172423-how-to-farm-nitre-and-flint-outside-of-swapping-to-wilson/#findComment-1873527 Share on other sites

You have collector drones helping you here so you can collect everything pretty quickly while fighting, especially post nightmare werepig. I've ranted about Antlion on the forums in the past, but I absolutely despise how you need thermal stones to kill it. I once tried to freeze it with an ice-flingomatic to see if that would subvert the thermal cost and of course it didn't. I wouldn't mind it that much if flint was easier to passively farm, but since its kinda annoying it feels wasteful to use it on antlion, and often I end up entirely ignoring it. The ancient guardian method is interesting, I'll have to experiment with it next time I clear the ruins. Also I'll be honest, I completely forgot about the nitre ponds from cave rifts. Cuz you list all way to farm nitre then ask us to get more active than that.... I think earthquake (+ snurtle slime to constantly farm more earth quake), mega farm bouderboughs method can both farm faster than wilson. Other than that, just acid rain + pond area. Just come to cave pond near ruin and mine them when acid rain happen and you have plenty of nitre to use. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172423-how-to-farm-nitre-and-flint-outside-of-swapping-to-wilson/#findComment-1873553 Share on other sites
Captain_Rage
Ride around the world on your mighty Beefalo in arbitrary directions and keep a steady pace and you will end up with plenty of flint. Works especially well in the caves. Cruvimaster
Boulderbough is a great in-game solution for obtaining many resources. logatocassie
i completely agree with how annoying Antlion can be, mostly at 'end game' phase where he is just a nuisance, but still needed for the stones. here is what typically helps me: 1. rain - with the new potation orb fragments, i can trigger rain with much greater ease. the telocator station is 'free' to use, and seeing as how i plan shadow WX78, i can use mimicked telocator staffs for free. there is no input into this other then time to use 2 mimicked staffs (on average) to trigger rain. the rain also helps with the wildfires, allowing me to roam around the world without worrying everything would burn just outside my screen... 2. docks - did you know that Antlion cannot do its 'sinkholes' on Dock tiles? use that for your advantage. when i get the alert about the impending sinkholes, i just go onto a dock area, and the animation triggers, but nothing, absolutely nothing, actually happens. as for the flint and nitre. yeah the two main, and most effective ways are forest petrification and the boulderbough. just plan a head. i placed a few 100 tree sections, and just leave them be, they will, eventually turn, and they give PLENTY (the endless slots on WX78 really come in handy here to pick them up) and its also very satisfying to use a mimicked 'pick/axe' to brake them while spinning. all that a side, and i want to say once more, i completely agree how the current method to trigger the fight with Antlion is rather annoying, and hope a new way to antagonize it would be implemented. Primalflower
With regrowth on, tree petrification is a really convenient way to get boatloads of both of those resources. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/172423-how-to-farm-nitre-and-flint-outside-of-swapping-to-wilson/#findComment-1873568 Share on other sites

Bumber64
Tillweeds spawn garden detritus, but I think that involves waiting (without Wickerbottom). Drop rates are low, anyway. Using AG for nitre is pretty damn legit, I wanted to blow AFW up somewhat, so I needed a stack and was way too lazy to farm them normally... during the AG fight, whenever he ran into a pillar, I just switched to lazy forager and collected nitre with that fell, then picked up the rest afterwards, finished the fight with half a stack.
