Make it NOT lit during day and glow it's gem indicating there's power stored in it. There's no reason not to do it, you could even make it slightly more expensive or cost thulecite for the matter of just making them, instead of using gold. (At least it'll add use to for thule later on). I think as a magical fire it'll at least be able to be strong to compete with the rest of light sources, as a stationary, non elemental fire.

Tbh, if they increase it's resource rarity cost for many benefits like so, I feel like it would be actually a decent structure. It's STILL in a nebulous space and I don't know why Klei are so... iffy about reworking it into something for the better. Be it boss drop or just more advanced to craft, cause we kinda lack very advanced/pricy crafts in general.

I feel like it could last longer the lower your sainity is.

And burn brighter.

To be frank it would actually be cool to have a pseudo 'maxwell light' they feel really satisfying to pass through. 

After all, we need more uses for abundance of nightmare fuel that Klei keeps giving us freely.

100% this but i feel like we already got 2/2 on nightlight requests. it almost feels like pushing our luck to get a nice qol next time if we keep trying to get more...you know what i am saying?

Luck on what? The thing is still kinda just... a sort of a 'lantern'. An upgrade or different cost higher tier light source via magic we could use. Old items and structures do need some revamp to feel like they could still be part of the game and feel great, tho with the right balance of course. And night light has been hated on for a long long time for making little to no sense in it's cost and efficiency, and the weird quirks about being extinguished easily.

luck on getting something we specifically asked for in the exact way we asked for that is not part of the scheduled updates. 

 

it being a good update that makes sense is not really relevant to my statement. we got something we wanted, we then asked for a bit more and got that too. noone fussed, fought, complained or got ignored and a good thing happened. i am saying that a good thing happened and it might make klei less likely to do good things like this in the future if we, collectively, get carried away and keep asking for a bunch of consecutive changes in quick succession.

which is also not really relevant to the specific concern i have. please understand that i am not trying to shut you down here as it is not about anything other than the brisk pace in which we are currently asking and receiving. i'm not on as many forums as i used to be but i have been on enough to know there is a fine line between being humoured because everyone is in a good mood and the vibe is right and losing something because the collective reached just a biiiiit further than the devs were willing to accommodate. at the end of the day while klei is comprised of people klei the company is not a person. it is under no obligations that do not service it's goals(make money & make games) and we can only engage with it in a limited capacity

 

that being said, for sure 100% if i was a less nervous person i would be entirely down for maxwell nightlight effects on nightlights. it would give them parity with mushlights in the caves and would also be the absolute coolest thing to have lining roads(especially for console players who dont have mods)

I mean, I don't care if they do or do not do it, I just toss out what I feel like must be changed. If it won't then nothing I can do about it (unless mod it but I'm iffy on using server side mods).

I don't know what's there to be nervous about. It's not like they'll punish us or they suffer from these suggestions (much), more like they're just doing their job and seeing what they can improve upon in the game. It costs us nothing to ask or argue with each other about it. It's not my obligation to care of how much I demand as long as I am having fun and not being a jerk about it.

Also, I really liked the idea of night lights storing fuel and only turning on based on being in darkness and/or proximity.

That or if lunacy is present, since that deters it.

Basically acting as a light AND an active ward against gestalts or lunar creatures.
