Where the Spider Queen, Tree Guard actually Lord of the Fruit Flies.

I don't know how I should compare bosses balanced for different numbers of players.

I think... Twins ?

But wait, where are the twins? They cannot be killed in battle without tricks alone.

I would consider the Celestial Revenant to be another phase of the Celestial Scion/Warbot fight and not a separate boss. I also consider Celestial Scion to be the most challenging boss in the game. I would place AFW as the second most challenging boss. You have the smallest room for error in the Celestial Scion fight. If you mess up an AFW cycle, it will prolong the fight, but won't make it impossible. If you mess up the stomp in the scion fight, it will essentially end the fight.

Scion (and warbot) are definitely way up there at the peak. Apart from getting to the boss being quite the ordeal, Scion heavily punishes trying to stall out the fight any longer than it has to with the creep attack. It is also a fight that is particularly punishing, as one positioning mistake can effectively be an immediate lose condition if it engulfs 80%+ of the arena with the slam attack (though thankfully you have a pretty decent windup before it executes said attack). It is the fight you need to end as quickly as possible before Scion really gets going and there's just no safe space to stand on.

I admittedly like it quite a bit for that, as it means you can't inherently brute force the battle and eventually win (well, you can, but not without an unimaginable amount of healing to recoup the rapidly draining health). You want to be good at positioning and paying attention to the bosses tells and act accordingly/punish it's opening windows to kill the boss as quickly as possible.

The reward is also nice in the form of the upgraded crown, though it is unfortunate you practically need a filter mod to not implode from eye strain and it's something I wish the empowered crown made you immune to.

Tie between AFW and Crab King. Warbot, Scion, and CC have tons of damage potential, however their mechanics are quite simple and their attacks are all easy to avoid. FW and Crab have so much going on in their fights, and their abilities to heal mean you can lose a ton of progress or outright lose the fight all together if you aren't careful. That being said, actually dying to FW or Crab is quite rare, at least for me personally. Most of my losses come from not bringing enough resources (or in the case of Crab King, my boat breaking).

I’d probably say toadstool. Toadstool is probably the closest thing to a DPS check boss in DST. Warbot and Scion are definitely up there in difficulty, but I think the biggest different with them is that as you fight them you eventually get better and better. Eventually, they do become much easier, though obviously nowhere near easy. With toadstool, it’s less that you’re fighting him than you are fighting his trees. He will always be a major resource sink and the longer the fight goes on (which is an extremely long fight to begin with) the lower your chances of winning become. There isn’t really any sort of skill expression against toadstool aside from delaying the trees by dragging him from the center, you’re kind of just smacking him for 10+ minutes and hoping you brought enough fire staffs/glass axes/weather panes to kill him in time. Some characters trivialize toadstool super hard, though, but outside of them this is consistently the hardest boss in my rushes.

Probably fuelweaver as by the time you get to scion you have rift weapons and crazy speed healing armour etc so it isnt that bad

I think the brightshade staff is so incredibly strong against fuelweaver that I cannot confidently say he’s the hardest boss, I honestly can’t even call him one of the hardest since so many characters have aoe now

Was unsure whether to pick Fuelweaver or WARBOT/Scion. Fuelweaver feels way more overwhelming to me but WARBOT + Scion lasts way longer with a similar level of stress.

One fight has you juggling a bunch of mechanics simultaneously whereas the other one is, as Maxil20 said, extremely punishing.

I'd say besides the boss I've yet to face like Celestial Scion, the hardest boss for me is the Fuelweaver. Without doing Celestial Champion first for the brightshade staff, I have yet to beat Fuelweaver solo. I don't think any other boss, besides one other, demands so much item management and decision making. You need so many different items to beat him for the average player and the punishment for error is massive. The woven shadows make this fight near-impossible to brute force. This fight also feels nigh impossible on console for most characters if you fight him first lol, and I've played on console for a majority of my playtime. I only beat him with Wolfgang, rock lobsters, lots of armor and healing, and a prayer.

Technically Celestial Champion have 6 phase's

ever since I learned you could drop and burn a backpack full of bees before the crab king fight to kill it in under a minute I'll give my current vote to Celestial Scion as I haven't made it that far and if CC was any indicator, I will struggle.

a bit surprised that Warbot/Scion is higher than AFW, as a console player it took me years of practice to be able to solo fw, and I'm not exaggerating, I even gave up on it at one point. They did add items to make it easier since then (brightstaff in particular) but it's still a really fast paced fight where you can't afford mistakes.

obv might be skill issue on my part, but I didn't have nearly as many issues getting comfortable to solo Warbot+Scion.

Unironically Spider Queen is harder than most bosses on this list.
