Hi.
Recently I made a post about the Great depths worm and right as I made that post I finally saw him. And I gotta say the presentation is very good, I love the mini earthquakes as your characters starts to freak out and you hear a eerie roar in the background, it's great and it reminds me of old bosses like deerclops but way better due to the added earthquakes and panic. Too bad he is very easy due to the fact he spawns around day 100 for most people and by that time you already have endgame loot. Anyways This just remined me of old DS and how the seasonal bosses were set up. I do hope we get to see more things like this in the future IMO it's a shame that most bosses have to be spawned in somehow (doesn't mean we should be forced to wait for said boss) it isn't that big of a deal but a cool one would be some kind of deerclops type boss on the ocean that would prevent players from skipping seasonal bosses using a boat. Might be more annoying than anything but im sure theirs a way to make it work. 5 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171040-boss-build-up/ Share on other sites

Hopefully Elsewhere will focus on the predatory boss behavior rather than the passive and entirely optional bosses of DST. 5 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171040-boss-build-up/#findComment-1863495 Share on other sites

You can beat it without followers or tons of items, but it makes it way harder. 8 hours ago, Evelo said: Yep. It's the difference between a Survival and a Combat focused game. I also like bosses like Malbatross where it feels like you are going on a hunt for a mystic creature instead of just popping up at a set spawn location. People complain about it, but it’s a stronger aspect about the boss. Just having a boss spawn would be boring. It is also a threat if you fish. 3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171040-boss-build-up/#findComment-1863524 Share on other sites

I kinda hope that but also bosses being rarer and something not to mess with without necessity, to rebalance on wanting to kill them but needing to be more careful with the resources you have. Maxil20
Admittedly, to DST's credit, my personal favorite boss buildup moment in the series is the summoning of the ancient fuelweaver. I think everything about it is done so right, with the gateway bosses of extreme shadow/the ruins guardian being neat buildup, needing to go directly to the literal heart of the ruins, the key lighting up the entire gateway, and summoning the boss itself charging the gate and hitting you with the initial verse of its battle theme. I think it's very well made, with the only boss coming reasonably close being the CC (and that's moreso the stuff that goes down when summoning the mysterious energy, and not the boss itself!) I think both have really neat aspects if handled right, with the great depth worm being a really nice example of an encounter that closes in on you. I also love when your character starts freaking out as the portal resets the ruins, it creates a sense of urgency Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171040-boss-build-up/#findComment-1863634 Share on other sites
Baark0
GDW is a cool boss but 1) its really rare to see without sitting in the caves forever and 2) its loot is terrible, and breaks the dst trend of bosses dropping an item related to their biology (think deerclops eye, bearger fur, bone helm). Instead, all you get is a bunch of random loot you can get elsewhere much easier, and a minuscule chance at fossils, which exists exclusively so that people can go "erm fossils are renewable actually" when you run out of fossils to build with in your 3000 day megabase world. I still don't get why 2-4 fossils don't drop from deconstructing bone helm/armor Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171040-boss-build-up/#findComment-1863653 Share on other sites

Seems like a no brainer, but it might have something to do with balancing with cheese strats that rely on fossils/statues. But given how well known and simple those exploitations are it isn't that big of a deal at this stage since it could have been addressed so so long ago. Fossils arent that good for cheese anymore since they gained a larger hotbox at least a year ago, and even then, statues exist and do the same thing. Even if statues didn't work, you don't need your fossils to be placed in other cheese arenas 24/7, you can just move them as you need em, so its pretty much exclusively an issue for people who like building skeletons. 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/171040-boss-build-up/#findComment-1863665 Share on other sites
