$430 + Klei Points + Starter Packs Prize Pool Bee Queen Tournament!

Hello hello everyone! I'm very proud to announce that in just a few days, we will be opening the submissions for the 5th community tournament event of Speedrun.com DST boards! First of all, a big shoutout to our sponsors @Pixil, @Carrion_DS and @DVGMedia, and all of our runners at Speedrun.com's DST boards for making this event possible, and to @Bobot roi for creating this beautiful artwork for our banner.

This time, we are hosting a Bee Queen tournament. The objective is defeating the Bee Queen as fast as possible, playing as any character other than Wolfgang, in any of the seeded worlds provided below. I will be editing this post whenever there is an important update to the tournament.

As always, we have some very unique worlds available. Along with an attractive prize pool of course, this time also including Klei Points and Starter Pack Codes as giveaway prizes!

- 1st place solo: 150 USD
- 2nd place solo: 120 USD
- 3rd place solo: 60 USD
- 1st place duos: 100 USD split between both runners
- Giveaway prizes: 10000 Klei Points + Starter Pack of choice (2019, 2020, 2023, 2024), given to 3 randomly selected runners

And we have some good news for console players: even though the $430 prize pool is still limited to the runs performed on the provided seeded worlds, we have introduced a way to make it possible for console runs to have a chance at winning our giveaway prizes in our last event, which we are keeping for this tournament. To imitate a seeded world, console runners will be allowed to play in a "rolled back" world instead.

Our giveaway prizes can be won by anyone with a valid submission, so make sure to submit a run if you are interested!

Here is an (extremely) compressed version of the tournament rules:

- Caves disabled, events turned off
- Current patch, no beta versions
- Can only play in the seeded worlds provided
- No duplicate characters in duo runs
- No server mods except for Gem Core and Disable Autosave
- No client mods except for Digital Clock / Speedrun Timer + Utility Mod (must show the frames) / Status Announcements / Skins extender
- Only 1 quitout allowed
- Only pause while spawning/checking a chest/performing a quitout
- Presetting allowed
- Send submissions to me via DM

 

Update: The tournament is now live! Here are the seeded worlds, each with a short explanation:

Seed A : 11810

This world is ideal for players who appreciate having the small but significant kickstart right off the bat. It includes an Entomologist Skeleton containing a Beekeeper’s Hat and a boon containing a Marble Armor at Spawn. It also has a boon containing a Fire Staff at the entrance to the Pig King Forest, with Glommer’s Statue and several Catcoon Dens nearby.

Florid Postern, Pig King and Bee Queen are all separated by the Frogs and Bugs biome, making it possible to walk between them without spending too much time. The wormhole in the Pig King Forest leads to Frogs and Bugs, close to Bee Queen, and the wormhole in the Savanna leads to the Graveyard in the Mosaic biome.

Seed B : 1488922

This world is especially good for players that don’t necessarily need to visit Pig King. The Bee Queen is at a walkable distance from the Spawn biome, which houses multiple useful setpieces: a boon containing a Hambat, another one containing 5 ropes, a Maxwell setpiece containing 8 Harp Statues and a Queen’s Gathering.

Additionally, a Mushroom Ring with 15 Blue Mushrooms can be found near the wormhole by Queen’s Gathering, which leads to Bee Queen. The Rock Biome is connected to spawn for a potential Science Machine or Alchemy Engine. The Spawn and Bee Queen’s biomes each contain a Touchstone for Pig Skin.

Seed C : 3728685

This world is a real treat for players who don’t mind taking a longer path to acquire strong equipment. Bee Queen and Pig King are both close to each other and at a walkable distance from Spawn, with Pig King being next to a Crop Circle with 15 Grass Tufts and a Maxwell setpiece with 8 Harp Statues.

Right at the exit of the Mosaic biome, there is a Dapper Skeleton containing a Tophat, a Red Gem, a Blue Gem and a Life Giving Amulet, which is close to a wormhole that leads to the Killer Bee biome with multiple boons, 2 containing a Walking Cane and a Dark Sword. The Bee Queen and the Killer Bees are separated by a corridor made by the Oasis Desert and the Swamp.

Seed D : 9195567

This world is best suited for players who can make the most out of few but rare setpieces. With the Mosaic Biome right at the Florid Postern, there is a Developer Graveyard, a boon containing a Top Hat, and a prebuilt base containing an Alchemy Engine on the way to the Bee Queen.

Additionally, the Swamp near Bee Queen contains two Mushroom Rings: one with 8 and the other with 10 Blue Mushrooms. The Pig King Forest, although being considerably out of the way, contains a Walking Cane. For Pig Skin, a Touchstone can be found by the entrance to the Mosaic Biome.

DVG was kind enough to offer some of his remaining codes as prizes for this event. And no, Klei is in no way involved in this tournament (technically the skin codes are given to ambassadors by Klei but you get the idea), this is a community event organized and funded by us.

is it really fun to always use the same strat of tanking bee queen with different characters and avoiding grumble bees with an exploit?

i mean you banned wolfgang but arent the other characters almost the same but with extra steps?

That wouldn't be a fun tournament, that's why there are 4 very unique worlds that encourage multiple different strategies that may or may not involve tanking, avoiding Grumble Bees or using exploits.

The fun part is figuring out which strategy works out best, how fast you can go with it, and watching other runners coming up with clever approaches.

Neither actually, presetting refers to manually editing post world generation stuff that are otherwise randomized, as long as they are possible to get in the game.

Relevant examples include Terrarium chest contents, boon item durabilities and marble head locations, which are otherwise a huge headache to keep regenerating the same world for.

(I just realised that I forgot to add the seeding rules which also explain presetting to the thread I posted on speedrun.com, apologies and I will do that as soon as possible)
