Besides the whole yellow glove thing, it would clean up some inconsistencies That can't be WX. He was already a robot when he was tossed in the portal, and his organic body ended up in Wilson's house, AFAIK. Here's WX being sent in: This could be days or seconds before Winona's short. I forget if there's more. There's definitely something that led me to believe Wilson took up residence in Wagstaff's old house. Sinistrem
Well people generally assumed it was Wagstaff because IIRC animator said it was supposed to be him. But since animation is 6yo and it never was officially confirmed, it could be anyone right now. Crimson717
It would be cool if this was leading up to a new survior being teased. QrChuck
On one of the developer streams, someone from Klei confirmed that the person Winona was trying to help was none other than Wagstaff. The yellow glove visible on one of the panels indeed belongs to our dear Robert. We also know that Wagstaff appeared at Wilson’s house (which originally belonged to him) after Wilson had already been taken to the Constant. The Voxola factory burned down in 1919, while Wilson was taken in 1921 — meaning Wagstaff was still around after the factory’s destruction. This suggests that the portal in the Voxola factory was never intended to send Wagstaff to the Constant. Instead, it may have transported him somewhere else in our world — only for him to return later and become a key piece of this larger puzzle. Wagstaff was "gone" during the ablaze, just as he planned so noone would interrupt him with his plans. 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168280-new-arg-link/page/17/#findComment-1839440 Share on other sites

After presumably being sucked into the portal? 27 minutes ago, Dr. Safety said: That's true. It does confirm the theory that Wagstaff was never actually in the Constant at all (until recently that is) Never a theory. We always knew that since the trailer, it was clear as water (or sap in this case). The only theory is if it was a clone of Wag or someone else. Sinistrem
Actually this creates a pretty bizarre timeline for Wagstaff: Wagstaff enters the Constant during Maxwell's reign, explores Hamlet, Shipwrecked and Vanilla. Wagstaff completes adventure mode and sits on the throne. Wagstaff manages to disappear from the throne, probably due to being a projection, probably learning something important due to how much he wants to sit on the throne according to his quote. Wagstaff is sucked into the portal, and during this animation we see Charlie so this is post Maxwell's no longer being the king of constant. Wagstaff cheerfully walks around gathering sap less than a day after being sucked into the portal. Them: HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS! 1 2 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168280-new-arg-link/page/17/#findComment-1839443 Share on other sites

Sounds like my old theory but Wagstaff not being on Nightmare Throne was debunked. Devs told that it was a bug. Even in solo DS Wagstaff was a projection and the real one was behind the projector found after earthquake in San Francisco, right after Maxwell and Charlie got sucked into Constant. He might tried to fake his d*ath or made up this plan after the portal didn't work as he planned. We know that he could not only send things (and WX) to the Constant earlier than the factory burnt, but also pull things from Constant (spider that merged with Webber). Not every Wagstaff-made portal was working properly, but some did...in some way Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168280-new-arg-link/page/17/#findComment-1839451 Share on other sites

In that case the lore would go something like this: Younger Wagstaff steals the projector that was recording Maxwell's and Charlie's final act from the collapsing movie theater (as we see in an intermission animation) and discovers The Constant thanks to it. He later, figures out how to project himself into the Constant and begins exploring the world during Maxwell's reign (playable Wagstaff in singleplayer) Somewhere along the timeline he starts working with the human that became WX-78, sets up his factory, delivers the spider to Webber's dad etc, etc. He figures out how to open a portal to the Constant and sends WX-78 there. Somehow none of the eldritch gods of the constant nor Maxwell or Charlie really care. Wagstaff needs more time and to disappear from the public eye in order to continue his experiments so he sets up his gateway to teleport him somewhere in the real world and cause the factory collapse. Cue the Winona cinematic: she sees Wagstaff going through the portal, the portal closes, Winona repairs it but accidentally connects it once more with the Constant and gets kidnapped by Charlie. Whatever this arg is slowly uncovering is happening after the factory collapse and before Wilson's disapperance After Wilson was kidnapped Wagstaff moved into his old house where he found Maxwell's Door that Wilson had built. Cue the grainy transmission in dst. I gotta hand it to the devs; this could work as a way to keep Winona's cinematic 100% canon while also explaining why Wagstaff was still just a projection in the Constant up until the Scion fight, even though we see him going through the portal in the animation. However this doesn't explain how Wagstaff was younger when Maxwell and Charlie were taken, but was old when Winona was taken. Winona is Charlie's older sister. Let's say that Charlie was 33 when she was taken, that'd make Winona, like 38 or something. In the intermission animation Wagstaff looks around 46 when he stole that projector, seemingly moments after Maxwell and Charlie were taken. If that's the case, then if Wagstaff was old when the factory burned down, then Winona should also look older 3 1 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168280-new-arg-link/page/17/#findComment-1839460 Share on other sites

We're not talking about game mechanics here, or else I'd be asking how Wilson could possibly be sustaining 75 hunger points every 8 minutes while stuck on a throne where he can't move. We're talking about the lore. Why would Wilson willingly choose to go back to the nightmare throne, which he does not like being on, so he can choose to sit on it for no reason while it's empty and he's not even saving anyone from it because Wagstaff already left it? It doesn't make sense. Wagstaff clearly never sat on the throne, the canonical events are clearly Wilson replacing Maxwell then Charlie replacing Wilson. 3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/168280-new-arg-link/page/17/#findComment-1839462 Share on other sites
