For me, a person that dedicated arround 4000 hours playing him, it was never about the spider, its just i like the character despite the spiders. Ofc i have used them some time but for that hughe amount of time playing him is almost neligible. So, if the sentiment is the same in other true webber mains (saying true not dissmising anyone opinions, but just that i feel that casually playing him once or twice cant get much insinght) Maybe maybe klei can take the oportunity to make his skill tree more about webber itself and very very less about the spiders. I understand it can be a hot topic since spiders is its core, but if the issue cant be fixed then what else can be done? Bumber64 Posted September 27, 2025 Share Posted September 27, 2025 (edited) I picked Webber because the personal perks seemed to make the early game easy. (Silk was a major roadblock for me in DS.) The state of the spiders is what's keeping me from using them. Just walking around with them is an inconvenience. I'd prefer if there was an even mix of spider and Webber skills. There can be Spider-man and Captain Olimar type branches. There's usually an extra branch. Arts and crafts? That would probably have the obligatory container for spiders, among other handy things. hoxi Posted October 3, 2025 Share Posted October 3, 2025 Seems like the last update pushed some optimizations for spider brains (except water spiders, as those use a separate brain file) to now use food tags to search for food, rather than checking for many entities manually. Them (as well as water spiders) and a bunch of other entities that the player can "trade" with (give an item) now have a less expensive check as well to check if a player wants to trade with them and stay put. I made a bug report about some further optimizations that could be made, as well as some general optimizations to the eater component, and also noticed and pointed out that water spiders are unable to eat food from the ocean or on boats (they only eat swimming fish), because they use the same valid ground check as other spiders. HowlVoid Posted October 3, 2025 Share Posted October 3, 2025 (edited) I think spiders should merge to form something similar to a varglet. This would also open up for unique mechanics unlike any other follower based character has. Visually this would look like spiders merging at a point and the result is a 3x size spider with little spiders on its back (spider tower). When it takes damage you can see little spiders falling off. The stats would be the same as however many spiders merged with increasingly smaller returns (since bigger hordes=less spider able to attack). Having nests would also serve as "healing spots" as spider gather to evenly distribute themselves amongst the spider towers (which costs spider bodies unlike nurses so nurses still good). This would greatly reduce lag if it caps him at like 3-5 spider towers per species.
