Klei is the one who made the ToS. It's on Klei to enforce it.

The resources it would take are not the players' problems.

It isn't player's problem but there are more considerations here. Logically we should be able to agree that it would easily be over 50% of players that would prefer If these resources are utilized on updates.

While official servers are popular there is only so few of them and overall a lot more players don't play there so they obviously wouldn't want to see developer time wasted on this.

just go play dst groups at this point

I did this for years, but unfortunately people aren't playing on these servers anymore (at least not on the vanilla and fresh ones). I recommend the servers of DST groups for years, when we have this topic, but all the people keep playing on the Klei servers. So if you want to play this game together with other people there is no other option than the Klei servers. Everything else is either very stressful or very lonely.

  1. Remove votekick and vote world regen from servers.
  2. Allow for world progression after server crash up to 500 days. After 500 ingame days klei server resets to day 1.
  3. If no one plays the server for more than 2 hours i.e server is empty for 2 hours, klei server resets to day 1.
  4. Allow full world regeneration for absolutely everything in DST e.g. panflute regens at glommer if no panflutes exist in world, pig houses respawn at pig king if none exist in world, slurtle mounds regen, grass tuff/saplings regen, mandrake regen. Make absolutely everything in DST regen and make them regen faster depending on how scarce that particular resource has become.

If these 4 things are implemented, say goodbye to all forms of griefing.

No need to thank me Klei and forum users. Its my pleasure being this smart. :wilsoalmostangelic:

Sorry – and I hate to bring the news, but Klei servers are not built to last for 500 days, unless you do nothing but (very simple) base building. The moment you open any of the rifts, the server will eventually crash during events like Lunar Hail.

Easy solution is do very simple base building. Like a base a single screen or even two won't crash the game.

Creating bases the entire size of one or more biomes shouldn't be a thing outside of private servers.

One thing people need to realize in klei servers is that no one owns anything. You may collect all the resources, build a massive base and played on the klei server for 400days straight... this doesn't mean you own the base or the server. A new spawn has every single right to come in and take resources and burn that base to the ground if they want to.

Because you do not own the klei server, and absolutely no single person or group of friends should gain any sort of power to enforce ownership of the only truly neutral servers.

Votekick/vote world regen is already too much power that groups of friends can use/abuse against single lone strangers looking to play on klei pubs. All voting should be removed for the sake of fairness and anti-griefing.

I'm not talking about mega basing, I'm talking about any game progression (like opening rifts after Ancient Fuelweaver or Celestial Champion)  towards mid game / end game is not viable on Klei servers, because they will crash.

Again my 4 point check list will solve any crashing problem. Persistent saves after crashing solves a single crash being an issue. Removing votekicking and giving the server a fixed day reset of 500 ingame days solves "gang griefing" that is to say prevents groups of people claiming false ownership by using afk scripts and bots to control the klei server.

It's not about crashing by griefers lol, it's about the fact Klei servers run on a potato.

Dst is a poorly optimised 11 year old potato of a game.

Its actually a bit sad that DST is 11 years old. Hate mobile game design logic. Bare minimum updates and rely on cheap/time efficient item skins that cost the price of full dlc expansions.

Klei has been bending us over and giving us the raw end of the stick and everyone including me have been praising them. Ah well....

Time to bomb the base down and force klei server's players move to community group :skull:

Sorry to hear that, griefers get spoiled by Klei

as long as the major server actions are run by majoritarianism, there will be people who are willing to take advantage of that.

as long as there is a way to ruin a base (whether it be burning it, or being able to get past coded-in, like a mod) there will be someone to try to do it.

if you dont like the open-ended democratic nature of most pubs where it's uncertain what will happen, then maybe they aren't for you.

the only thing klei takes action on are ones who exploit their code or network, and i dont expect that to change in the future either.

my question is why people care so much about a server that's so fragile and transient, often not even lasting a full day.

on the internet, it's not uncommon to come across someone, or a group of people, who desire to ruin the fun, so please expect that. however, it's up to you how you want to adapt to that.

although u are right, klei can absolutely give some tools for us to work with, like setting kick ban to only people who survive longer then 10 days, make ban timer longer, allow roll backs that goes up to 5 days.

these tools can shut down like 80% grifers

True as f, I can compromise with griefers but can't stand the fragility of pub hosts. They can die at any time, sometimes in just 40-50 days.

Only thing I'd like to add: you might have the same "pleasure" as I had, when they use your name as username during griefing, so you can report them to Steam for impersonating.

This guy has been impersonating me for 4 years. Valve doesn't care.

Klei momento :

Just want to restate these four points. As you need to do all of these to ensure all forms of griefing is removed/reduced in impact.

  1. Remove votekick and vote world regen from servers.
  2. Allow for world progression after server crash up to 500 days. After 500 ingame days klei server resets to day 1.
  3. If no one plays the server for more than 2 hours i.e server is empty for 2 hours, klei server resets to day 1.
  4. Make absolutely everything in DST regen and make them regen faster depending on how scarce that particular resource has become.

Player controlled voting definitely needs to be the first to go, a single griefer with access to multiple accounts/bots or even an overly controlling friend group that want to make the klei server theirs, can abuse majority control to votekick people who have done nothing wrong.

A final 5 point would be also enabling a changed form of wilderness mode were you spawn in a random location but if you die you still turn into a ghost and after 10mins of being a ghost you get kicked, this plus enabling spawning with resources from the get go will help new spawns survive joining the server no matter what as it prevents people creating portal traps.

so what if theres one griefer ? do everyone just leave?

No but one griefer can't do that much damage, you can hold important items like iridescent gems from archives in your inventory to prevent griefers stealing it. A griefer burning a base isnt a big deal, all bases can be rebuilt and you only really need a single alchemy engine for prototyping anyway otherwise things like crockpots and farms are unnecessary for game progress.

And if you really only want to play DST for basebuilding then do it on a private server or accept the fact that no matter what you do the base is going to get deleted via crashing/griefing/or natural server reset. So why even care about griefers to start with?
