Heya folks.

This is a post going over some of the new upcoming changes to the world and its events that I've dug up after digging around. I'll probably update this as I find stuff, but needless to say this includes MAJOR story spoilers for stuff not yet in the beta. So, click the funny box if ye' dare.

Spoiler

Let's start with the juicy meat of it all. Wagstaff seems to be gone.
In some of my previous posts I went over the unused animations of the Celestial Scion offing Wagstaff. Currently not in the beta yet, but there does seem to be some mostly functional consequences!!

Once Wagstaff is consumed, several world events featuring Wagstaff will change.
The most notable one being the Moon Storm events. Once Wagstaff is gone, these'll change.

Wagstaff no longer appears during the Moonstorm, and instead an active Static will spawn in his place. You can interact to start the event. Tools still spawn, but you can give any of them to the static in any order. The only real change is that instead of needing to know the tools, you simply need to wait for it to play an anim and call for one.

The other events, like killing CC, and the 3 mutated bosses are very diluted, they just play themselves and Wagstaff doesn't show up. CC just falls over, and a Spark Arc spawns next to the third killed boss.

There's also a new enemy that spawns in the world. It's a doozy though.
The Inimical Gestalt has 2,000 health, and does 180 damage.
They currently can only spawn in one at a time, don't despawn/relocate(?) and there can only be one in the world. They have a second attack if they keep missing you where they shoot out glass around them. They take real damage. They can spawn anywhere with Lunacy. They are also entirely hostile by default and have no drops. They seem unfinished, and might have new attack behaviors later on? They're still pacified by the Lunar crown, though!

If you want to give it a shot, you can. Run this in the console; TheWorld:PushEvent("wagboss_defeated")
I'd personally recommend a dummy/test world, though.

I gotta admit DST feels like it’s heavily lost it’s direction, and no I’m not just talking about boss fight fiascos, like what I mean here is that the entire From Beyond Arch.. It just seems overly unnecessary that they would add Wagstaff into the game, give him jump scare moments, go so far as to Code the game so that NPC’s messages will pop up as in game Text Chat Messages, only to create whatever this is that immediately removes him from the game so quickly after all that sh** was done to introduce him not so long ago??

Feels like let’s add moon glass to the game but never expand on that with a bunch of cool tools, weapons or world effects. Let’s add Pirate Monkey Raids & a harsh Monkey Curse that persists even through death  but then nerf that into oblivion… Lets add an ocean but barely ever add ocean content into it.

Look I’m sorry, but I fail to see the bigger picture in the grand scheme of Klei’s design here.

Is he really dead dead or did they merge? Or was he possessed? Mutated? When I saw the incomplete animation I had the impression that he was taking the power for himself, but with these ones it looks like something drastic happened to him, and his real body. I find it strange since he was supposed to be Charlie's counterpart, and this way it looks more like THEM are taking their place on stage for good. I wonder if something will happen to Charlie too if he left the scene forever, then THEM (Are both moon and shadows them? I've seen it being used to refer for both), the shadows, should take the lead too.

He also seems to have been teleported somewhere, it would be cool if we could go to that place... if we happened to have an inactive portal related to the moon somewhere in the game...

I will sound really rude but thats it? The "post victor world events" boils down to new gestalt spawnig? Cause the Waggstaff stuff is reallt nothing new when you think about it. Everything plays out the same and has no other outcomes. Nothing else in the works in the game files?

The disappearance of Wagstaff seems like Klei trying to paint this as a great triumph over a cartoon villain.

I'll be honest, I don't like the idea of Wagstaff disappearing for good at the end of this boss fight. It seems like the greater narrative surrounding the playerbase's perception of Wagstaff is this great villain we're supposed to rejoice in his defeat. The thing is, Klei kind of made him charming.

He's written to be this complete strawman we're meant to hate with the deeds he's done in his shorts and the creation of WX and WX's resentment of Wagstaff, not to mention him kicking Pearl off the island into somewhere worse. I may be alone in this, but I can't bring myself to hate the guy and it's nice seeing him run past here and there and it adds solid flavor to the world when he's doing what he's doing.

i dont think thats what theyre doing? it moreso seems that he didnt expect things to go this way and his own hubris caught up to him. not necessarily that we "won" over wagstaff and he's "finally defeated". most if not all of the characters in don't starve are written as morally gray and i would find it odd if wagstaff was an exception to that

his actions against pearl are bad, but wx isn't really necessarily the one we're supposed to be rooting for because they're playable - they make it very clear that they're also not a good person. i don't think wagstaff is a good person but he's also still a person. there's not really anything indicating that we're supposed to feel a specific way about him being gone, he just is.

If I'm alone in this, then I'm alone in this. Between the destruction of Pearl's island, Wagstaff's banishment from the constant and a lot of rifts shenanigans that shouldn't be in the game in it's current form, quite frankly, the Scion isn't worth defeating, but there will always be the nagging thought in the back of your mind that is between FOMO and a level of non completion thrust upon the player.

His actions caught up to him, he was playing scientist with an eldritch god and making it mad and got the consequences of his curiosity.

And my guess is that they use him as a slave to make armor and robots for themselves

Wagstaff Don't starve didn't deserve this. All he did was scam people, try to kill people, messed with the moon and made us do all the work, and evict and old lady among many other things. though if you don't count any of that he did nothing wrong.
