The three combat saddles are pretty tough to get, despite having a pretty essential effect of letting you remount your beefalo while they are angry. The battle saddle is character locked and even still can't be made until winter, and the war and nightmare saddles are both pretty endgame. In my experience this leads to friends getting really angered at the game or asking for rollbacks and I really don't see why an early combat saddle wouldn't be reasonable.

 

I propose: the Scrappy Saddle! It would be crafted with some scrap and some gold and would give 35% speed (default saddle gives 40%) and +5 damage. This would make it very slightly the weakest saddle in pretty much every metric, but it would let the player mount their beefalo if it gets hit! This would be a lifesaver for especially newer ornery beefalo users and would give another use to the scrap you can get when you first find the scrapyard.

 

Obviously there are many ways to implement an early game combat saddle, this is just my favorite. I understand some people want beefalo to be weaker, but I see this suggestion as more of a QoL than a buff.

About the proposal, I think it should be made all saddles allow mount even when Beefalo is angry.

We need more saddles in general. Currently we have 1 speed saddle and 3 combat saddles with the speed saddle being grindy and only useful for rider and one combat saddle being character locked and the other 2 are endgame. No saddle for pudgy beeflo (no idea what that would do but still), no all around saddle that isn't the default one, no mid game combat saddle, no speed boost saddle that isn't viable only for rider and no special saddles.

The game does have combined and non combined packs so i don't see why it shouldn't be an option

That idea is pretty fun, but it's okay if we play favorites with Walter.

Walter would still be better since he can open Woby while riding, and with beefalo you'd probably have to unmount + the storage shouldn't be big maybe 6 slots.

Yeah sure why not, why not delete beefalos and make the game ACTUALLY UNCOMPROMISING, huh klei? I can't survive uncompromisingly it's too compromising klei I don't even starve in this game:wilson_cry:

I don't remember beefalo taming ever being a noob trap? Beefalo have always negated the downsides of characters while acting as a major health sponge that auto-replenishes over time and can be feed to get a ton of healing. Now though they just made it easier by being able to feed while mounted so you can avoid being bucked off forever, and keep your beef healthy at all times.

I feel like this is sarcasm, im not sure, but I do think nerfing beefalos would be greatly beneficial to the health of the game (granted that is one of many things that would be good for the core identity of Don't Starve, but maybe I am just stuck in the past. /shrug)

The majority of players don't even tame a beefalo and not all characters benefit from having a beefalo as much as others. Also yes, you definitely are

Because Beefaloes have been very powerful for a long time and are easier to handle than ever but people who love to roll back and haven't figured out the basics of DST yet beg to differ.

when the members successfully conned klei into passing huge buffs for "QoL".

and also one great buff a year in average

If you try to manipulate Don't starve together or people by being jerk like that, then I have to use "Just don't use it."

imagine thinking that beefalo, the most overpowered and braindead addition to DST since 1956 that completely killed the uncompromising nature by allowing players to take damage (prior to beefalo getting added every character died instantly if you took damage) deserves even more buffs to keep power creeping the meta progression creep power overpowered

Though idk how I was being manipulative. A jerk, yea kind of. But Manipulative? Not intentionally.
