Given the current situation, Warley’s main issue is that, aside from being able to create his exclusive buff foods, he has no other advantages but noticeable disadvantages. Since these foods can be mass-produced, stored, and used by others, Warley becomes a swap character.

Winona once had a similar issue, but it was resolved by giving her exclusive access to teleporters and powerful planar attacks of catapults.

Here are some ideas I’d like to share, enjoy :

1. Push above ur stomach limit

  • Main Dish: When you eat food that exceeds your hunger, health, or sanity cap, the extra stats will be stored and released at a rate of 2 points per second when you take damage, lose sanity, or get hungry.

  • Dessert: While the above ability is active, you can eat another different food to further increase your stat cap.

  • Digestif: You can eat one more additional type of food for even more

These abilities allow you to preload at base instead of carrying 3–4 kinds of food, and encourage variety in what you eat. But not op to make u facetank dmg

2. Boring Stat Boosts

  • The duration of spice buffs is doubled on you.

  • The duration of any food-related buffs is doubled on you.

3. Butcher Mastery

  • Butcher Mastery I: You can use gold to craft a Chef’s Knife. When hitting normal mobs with this knife, they receive a debuff lasting 1 minute. If they die under this effect, their food-type drops are replaced with special ingredients (e.g., spider legs, lizard tails) that can be used for exclusive food recipes.

  • Butcher Mastery II: You can use Thulecite Ore in the ruins to craft a Ancient Chef’s Knife. When hitting bosses with it, it applies a debuff lasting 4 minutes. If the boss dies while under this effect, they drop a special seasoning that can be used on meal:

    • Pheromone Gland of the Spider Queen: For 8 minutes, you can hire spiders.

    • Resin of Treeguard: For 8 minutes, the target u hit will get slowed for 4 sec.

    • Deerclops’ Tear: For 4 minutes, your freezing effects are doubled and do not increase freeze resistance.

    • Moose/Goose Foie Gras: Grants immunity to wetness and lightning for 16 minutes.

    • Sand Gland of Antlion: Your skin forms a sand barrier, giving 40% damage resistance.

    • Powder of Bearger’s Fur: Grants immunity to sleep effects for 8 minutes.

    • Powder of Minotaur’s Horn: Gain the Minotaur’s strength for 4 minutes, you can harvest all resource nodes in one hit.

    • Fire Gland of Dragonfly: For 4 minutes, you're immune to fire, deal 1.5x damage, and your attacks ignite enemies (without destroying items—similar to Willow’s fire, just cooks food).

    • Malbatross’s Foie Gras: Allows walking on water for 4 minutes.

    • Honey Sac of Bee Queen: For 4 minutes, restores 4 health per second, and your attacks cause enemie panic.

    • Roe of Crab King: (Effect idea pending)

    • The Orb of the Fuelweaver: Grants invincibility similar to bone armor for 4 minutes (same cooldown mechanic).

    • Crystal Powder of Champion: Sanity is locked at maximum for 4 minutes.

Seems too op? Don't forget most of them are only one per seaon or even year

4. Edible Arsenal

  • Tomahawk Steak: Use beefalo horn, large meat, garlic, and onion to cook this. It deals 68 damage, functions as both a weapon and axe. Damage scales from 68 to 51.

  • Sausage Whip of Horror: Shadow-aligned. When mining Dreadstone Outposts, you always get The Essense of Horror. Cook it with blood sac, 0.5 meat, and garlic to make this 10-day-fresh weapon. It deals 70-54 damage + 20-14 planar and range as a whip.

  • Brilliance Wing: Lunar-aligned. When mining Pure Brilliance, 25% chance to get Powder of Brilliance. Cook with Powder of Brilliance, drumstick, honey, and pepper to make this 10-day-fresh weapon. It deals 75–59 damage + 25-19 planar damage and emit light like morning star.

5. Banquet Creation

  • Banquet I: Unlocks an oven recipe. You can use it to make feast that feed up to 4 people. Only Warley can place the feast.

  • Banquet II: Adds a seasoning station for the feast. You can season banquet meals to give buffs to all eaters.

6. QOL (Quality of Life) Perks

  • Ingredient Bag: A 6-slot bag for storing cooking ingredients.

  • Meal Bag: A 6-slot bag for storing meals.

  • Salt Bae: You can apply seasoning to food directly from your inventory.

Suggestions are not bad, but it doesn't match with what I and probably many more players expect from Warly's Skill Tree/Rework. Can't explain why.

Also those changes wouldn't fix his pick and swap problem.

What makes his downside interesting btw?

It has an interesting Idea, but how it currently works isn't interesting imo.

Is interesting and It would be more interesting if the effect were stronger.

You can't spam healing food in a game where you can have 10.000 healing points without cooldowns. Also affects the restoration of sanity which is limited to few dishes.

So no blue caps and green caps spam, no cacti spam, no pierogi spam and even using a batbat can be problematic because it drains sanity

Why would anyone play solely for this reason?

To change the way you approach the game? When you keep relying on the same strategies for every fight or season, things can get PRETTY stale, if you ask me. Specially, if you've been playing for a long while.

I was thinking about small perks for Warly. The one I was thinking of was giving a specific buff for every character when he makes their favorite food. It has the same stats but has some small bonus like 5% more damage or heal sanity regeneration, which is a fun mechanic. It could be a filler skill before something. (Don’t think it will really fix the problem of swapping but just want to share this idea.)

Edit: What if Warly also gains a buff from eating someone’s favorite food? Like Spicy chili will give him 5% damage against enemies on fire, and similar small buffs.

because is interesting, since you cant always resort the same food for healing/hunger/sanity, it sorta artificially creates a sense of satisfaction when you eat different food

I could ask the same for the opposite side

You mean you don't understand why would people play Wolfgang for his double damage and not for his negative sanity modifier? Or why would people pick Wickerbottom for her books and not her inability to sleep?

You clearly just do not like Warly and don't want to play as him.

Have I missed something? Why are you so aggressive all of a sudden?

I do understand. What I don't understand is what is hard to get for you about people wanting characters with noticeable downsides

Warly doesn't need a a 6 slot bag for dishes as "qol". He already has one(it sucks. But it just needs a small buff). If you mean in a sense of it working like the Polar Bearger Bin? also no. The Polar Bin/bundling wraps already exist. You should earn it. Warly's inventory management aspect coming from prefering to use varied healing methods shouldn't be removed to dumb down the game. We already have enough super straightforward characters. This also applies to the ingredient bag.

An Overheal type mechanic on Warly? It doesn't work in general. It's not because it doesn't work for Warly. it's because it doesn't have particularly good applications anywhere, unless it's a roundabout way to just increase the character's stats.

You're also suggesting Warly to get 960(1920 with spice duration buff) extra healing from killing Bee Queen btw. I can't see this idea being implemented as then any update including a new boss would also have to update Warly. This also doesn't seem like it would make sense to be in a skill tree more than just being a rework.

Most of these suggestions are moot while not addressing his "swap character" nature.

It's not fun to either spam Meaty Stew and Meatballs or be stressed about maintaining a variety of ingredients to cook 10 different dishes just to satisfy your two-day hunger cycle. As I said, it's a good idea but poorly executed. I don't think anyone enjoys this aspect of Warly. They just tolerate it because they're focused on the reward: Chaud-Froid. Remove that one thing, and he becomes the worst character that isn't worth picking, unless you enjoy a Wes like challenge.

Okey, so because you don't like it I don't exists... Good logic

I play warly and I barely use his atack buffs

I like the downsides,as I said, because the interaction between food and health & sanity. Sure, the hunger part suck but how wouldn't with dumb +12 years old dishes

I always said that they can make it so the downsides Is more noticeable but let's see if they don't even soften it instead with the skill tree as they are doing lately with others...

Maybe it would be considered "gamey" or something, but I would like for him to get a unique Gorge cooking style crafting setup, where he can personally customize far more complex and unique dishes.

If the player tries to bundle-wrap it, Warly will complain that it's offensive you would try to wrap up such a superb dish, or if another character tries to do it they would say something like "I can't, that cook guy might get mad at me."

This will prevent the players from swapping after making a stockpile of these new dishes because they would just expire. Maybe Warly himself could be an exception by having a special feast preservation item that only he can use which achieves a polar-bin or fridge effect on them.

This would leave his base dishes "swappable", but the true crem de le crem(or however that is spelled) would be on Warly's terms and you'd have to play him to get the benefits if you were solo.

I wish all regular dishes prepared by Warly had a Warly Tag on them with boosted stats. Cause it makes no sense that Meatballs prepared by uncivilized fish girl have the same quality as Meatballs prepared by a Pro Chef.

Yes please make it so that Warly doesn't have to waste his time with filler crafts like grinding mill and seasoning stations which only serves a single purpose. It's stupid that you need to craft a structure in order to craft the spices and then craft another structure in order to use the spices. Warly can do both of these by hand, and its always been bugging me, but hey maybe Warly's powers are just too OP Klei has to put it behind these prepping stations.

as much as i like this idea, i dont really think warly mains would practically enjoy spending days inside a kitchen just to make stat food that other survivor can .

It gives a valid incentive to get a variety of food instead of only what comes to hand (aka meatballs).

Who said anything about this being the sole reason? Currently Warly's downside sets his gameplay apart from the other characters quite a bit. Some people even prefer Wes despite the poor stats simply because of the general experience. It has been mentioned more than once on the forums that Wolfgang is too boring to play because the boss battles become a breeze. To each their own, but Warly still makes for a more distinct experience.

I don't think there's a single person on the entire planet who hates playing as Warly like you do but they endure through it so that they can make the game considerably harder and go through the game with no benefits at all so that eventually they'll be able to start putting in a ton of effort so they can make a temporary damage buff that's usually worse than what Wolfgang starts the game with for free, but sometimes it gets slightly better than what Wolfgang gets for free.

Currently, Warly's upsides are not that good, they kind of suck. The biggest draw to the character is his personality, sprite, instrument, and downside. I see people pick Warly all the time but I never see them actually make volt goat chaud-froid. They usually never make any of his dishes. They just like Warly.
