Why the Balatro implementation is a marketing genius

Recommended Posts

Unlike how many other games that does these sponsorships with Jimmy game Klei instead internally coded a simplistic version of it into their game.

This is genius, by putting it within their game players will have to play it or learn it because of their innate curiosity and this will indirectly teach players how to play Balatro.

I say this because it worked on me.

It is genius because it allowed us to see Wormwood in a jester hat, and that's awesome.

On a real note, it's actually really cool because now we have playing cards and can play real card games in DST with our friends.

The only thing that really frustrates me about the DSTs crossovers is that everything it has crossed over with has been a RogueLite type of game, and DST isn’t really a RogueLite.. i guess DS Was (adventures mode), But honestly I’m not even sure what to call DST, it’s the least RogueLite of all RogueLites out there…? Baltaro is more RogueLite than DST ironically.

At this point I’m surprised Klei hasn’t attempted a Crossover with Deadcells, or the lesser known (Deadcells like) Trinity Fusion.

Would you call Terraria a roguelite? I think it's just about crossing over with willing indie devs and a lot of the big indie games are roguelite/roguelikes (spelunky, dead cells, hades, enter the gungeon, binding of Isaac are some more off the top of my head)

Is not. Is an adventure sandbox game... Terraria has like 0 rogelike mechanics

I don't think my brain can tolerate the possibility of another talking item gimmick.

Can someone please explain how does it work? I have played poker before and I don't understand still what is considered my hand here and is joker I choose also a part of my hand when I pick it.

There are cards on the ground that I pick up by the structure. But then if I open the joker structure interface I can no longer see my inventory and therefore the cards in it. Am I supposed to memorise them? In all poker versions I played you are always allowed to see your hand. If I lose, the card objects stay the same again so do I have to continue and try again with the same hand? It's all super confusing.

If you examínate the structure you get a explanation in the scrapbook

The cards are simply to use them as decoration or to play cards with other players or a solitaire in-game. Not related to the minigame

@Edible Coal @WilsonHiggs Thanks, it now makes sense! I was trying to make combinations with the cards I picked up and wondering why is it not working haha. They should've explained the rules in the help section of the structure that lists combinations.
