Not that I know of when it comes to the forum, but you may find interest in the Compendium of Amazing Designs.

Alternatively, if you'd still call yourself a beginner guides not included has simple and efficient builds.

Thanks for your reply, i already knew thoses pages and like the Compendium as a reference.

I'm at around 1750 hours, not a beginner but not an expert either, and i tend to forget things when i drop the game for long periods of time.

Repeating someone else design is not so entertaining. If You are bored and want to have a challenge I can give You some.
1. Abyssalite is melting to tungsten. Design a system to retrieve tungsten from abyssalite.
2. In Spaced Out there is a slime meteor shower that is leaving a slime/dirt tiles above the bunker doors. Design a system to automatically clean it. You need space for rocket launchpad!

If You need just an inspiration and Compendium of Amazing Designs is too simple for You then You are already an expert.

neat guide, I will need to look it over. The guy I used to fawn over made the most incredible builds. Like in a hex pattern. Showed them here every once an awhile. I forget the name.

My history here doesn't go back far enough anymore. All that forum stuff is archived now I guess.

Probably not the one you meant, but kyldvs made some pretty nice guides back in the day.

oh well I think I have my terminology incorrect. I was thinking more 'build', as in the entire structure, or 'base'. How the colony is divided and utilized. The overall layout of the habitat. The way this person laid out the entire colony was what I was so fascinated with. Just the picture alone of the entire map could be considered art. Incredibly intricate and considered, deliberate, intentional complex arrangements.

Like someone got MC Escher to stop going 3D for a bit. :)

Something Quzasr or Quasar? The screen name, I recall now vaguely.

I wish I could load an old save I never screen captured..

It had such a perfect layout for the living area all made of gold tiles and abys bug lamps. Bathroom wall was a 5 wide fish tank with statues and automation.

It's @QuQuasar. He was a real source of inspiration and "I can do this too" moments.. yep, in some hundred hours.

The base you are referring to, I think, was a particularly lucky geyser arrangement which allowed for a symmetrical (from the center in the four cardinal directions) base layout and some quite cramped sections inside big bubbles and anime starshine like (or quasar like) corridors connecting said bubbles.

Cramped the right way!

it was remarkable stuff, on a different machine I had saved some of the posted screens. But that machine broke long ago, somewhere in one of the leftover drives i have those files. Wanted to print a couple of them out just for the artistic feel.

Make a volcano powered metal refiner. Still don't have a great design for this.

Farm shine bugs for decore and free light. Automate a system to send the eggs throughout the base into glass lamps with water lock. Also kills germs.

Make a fish farm that drains and refills to get all the meat and fish at once or migrate the school to a new area.

Kilns can heat till they melt the construction material. And ceramic is amazing. Do with that what you will.

I wish you could cook egg under water for hard boiled eggs. But you can heat cook them for fun.

Fish tanks. Walls. Floors. Beds.

think he had like 3 or more builds, very likely. That one particular one was highly highly developed, and engineered. I think I had around a dozen screenshots that got posted over time. Some of the work could practically be MC Escher

Me either, but I do have a base with a prototype idea. Stuff kept melting, so I suppose I should re-try it with space materials.

Ceramic is probably my favorite pre-space material.  I once designed the oxygen system for a base specifically around creating tons of clay for ceramic.  I've recently learned that polluted oxygen vents output a pathetic amount of actual oxygen.   This particular one outputs just enough to support a single dupe.  I _way_ overbuilt the output facility.  But hey, at least I'm getting my clay!

Looks good and works. Win in my books.

I've been trying to get lava to refine metal (better) and have it cool inside mesh tile without too much 'cheese' (no tile skips) so you get 100% dropped material. And it sits in a vacuumed chamber retaining heat.

It uses a double vacuumed system so everything runs extremely hot maintaining furnace intake or needs direct cooling. Props to developers for adding radiator pipe, such a solid feature.
