How do you think the archive and fuelweaver portal will function technically speaking? [also a Poll]

Fuelweaver portal and archives portal

  1. 1. How do you think the two portals will be implemented?

    • Two new shards on top for the server (like the caves)
    • Every survivor is transported to a fresh new world (like adventure mode)
    • The current server world is backed up, and all are transported to new world with ability to return (zip unzip method)
    • The portals will lead to a place accessible in the current shard (no shards, just new zones)
    • Your characters will literally be moving to a different server when you enter the portals (interlinked server nexus server hopping)

    • Something else (post reply)

I know the intention based on the existence of those is that they will be portals to somewhere eventually.

Which got me wondering how exactly will those be implemented?

Do you guys think Klei is looking at implementing a shard system on top (like how caves is a shard of the overworld)

Or do you think entering that portal will replace the world with a new one with different parameters (similar to original Don't Starve adventure mode).

Another way they could do it is to "archive" on the server disk the current world like a server backup, and move all current survivors at the portal into the new world with their current inventories, and when you want to go back you all go back together with fresh loot and such.

Or a slew of other ways to go about it.

I'm quit curious to understand what they're cooking for the future.

They definitely have something in mind.

Made a poll, get your dreadstone tinfoil hats on.

most PCs can't handle a 3rd shard (hell, even having caves on already set the limit to older PCs). even le funny Island Adventures mod, if you wanna set up a 4-shard world, you gotta make it dedicated.

I won't mind if it's like Forge/Gorge but again, I imagine the strain on handling such thing would be terrible for older PC.

I used to think the Sealed Portal would be the place where you gotta put the Sp-arks but noooooooo, average klei missed opportunity moment

Yes, most people that can defeat rifts play on dedicated anyway
That would be the performance cost of "expanded" content
You would have to enable it at server launch like caves are enabled per server

I do enjoy the Island Adventures mod 4-shard worlds myself, but it is quite a nightmare to setup

ah yes imagine being uncaring that some people can't afford getting a 'better' PC

If the content is good, official dedicated servers will provide the extra shards on demand.

Even with an old PC you could still play with the extra shards if you only connect to a dedicated server that has them.

For you if it is 2 shards or 20 shards, it won't affect you that much on the client side if the load is handled server side.

Isnt that i dont care but expecting games to run on old computers is kind of delusional

The game already needs more power than 8 years ago and, if keeps getting updates, people would need to update their systems. You cant add updates while keeping the same requirements forever

Sadly, i doubt any videogame company's target, specially for games as service like dst, is someone who cant affort updating updating their computer with +6 years old pieces. Who they will sell skins to them?

I came up with the idea a while ago that they could lead to lunar and shadow biomes like a void  and a biome on the moon aka alter i love the idea of new biomes themed around both sides of the war and the gateways would be the perfect way to implement them in my opinion

Welcome to the world of Console gaming, where if you want to play the new features of GTA V you gotta upgrade from an Xbox 360 to an Xbox One & then an Xbox One to a Series X/S. I think the most you can hope for is that Klei allows you to adjust world sizes or game features to be optimal for your platform.

(like how some Minecraft DLC can be hosted in Performance Mode for ps5/Series X/S, or Quality Mode for ps4 & Xbox One)

7 Days to Die (the X/S version) is limited to only allowing you to host 1-2 players on the Series S, 1-4 on a Series X.

PC has been eating good for decades because in most cases: Those can be stripped apart and upgraded with new parts for better performance.

But this has ALWAYS been the Norm for Console Gaming…

And there will “eventually” come a point where Klei will either need to discontinue support for old consoles (like how Naraka Bladepoint which released on Xbox One got an update that made it Series X/S while discontinuing support for Xbox One) or they’ll need to Re-Release a newer version of the game (GTA V Xbox 360, GTA V Xbox One, GTA V Series X/S)

With “Technical Limitations of old hardware” no longer being a concern- I’d personally like for the portals to work as sort of Adventures Mode worlds.. but it would probably need to be designed like Portal Knights (aka: When one player activates the portal it drags everyone else to the new world with them)

Yeah, at some point you gotta realize game devs don't always think it through, or if they do, they aren't always free to follow up on their ideas due to company constraints.

I also vote for "its gonna be nothing"

I don't think we'll enter the portals at all. I definitely don't think they're going to be adding more shards. They screwed the ruins up to remove a third shard, so there's no way they're going to have everyone need to run a third shard anyway just for content that 99% of people aren't gonna see and the 1% who actually end up going there see that there's a single Scorplus sitting around, and if you kill them they drop an IoU for future content being added.

The Salty Forum hypothesis:

Most people that remain on the forums are naturally selected to be salty and ultra-complainers, while all the people enjoying the game are actually playing the game.

Hence, all the people that remain on the forum don't have anything positive to say, because only the salty ones remain.

Similar to dead internet theory, but for salt

The forums simp for Klei nonstop on most things, with only a few exceptions like skill trees & rifts being more controversial.

Liking free updates = Simping

ppl might hate this idea but I wish the sealed portal is just a portal to the real world, and they're all set free. I want Klei to finish the game and for the survivors to have lots of endings based on how many thing you did in-game. Then give the player the option to continue playing, but in a new world, it would then be world number 2 and things would be different, similar to new game plus.

NewGame+ is also a hypothesis
