Make Krampus Sack A Guaranteed Drop for Enraged Klaus.

Recommended Posts

Ok, mostly off topic from Beta but maybe a little bit Wortox related? Ehh.. Anyway, Klaus as a boss is great and as long as you don't kill his deer you're fine.

However, bless your soul if you dare kill but one of the deer. Enraged Klaus almost TRIPLES his health pool into both forms, almost TRIPLES damage done to players and the worst stat increase of all 63.3% damage reduction... Like he literally gains armor, it's insane.

Now imagine you somehow kill him (you won't) and all you get is a single Down Feather and a Shrooms Skin? Getting such a abysmal drops should be a crime considering that Enraged Klaus Solos basically every boss in the game including Post-Rift ones. We have beautiful Krampus Sack Skins so throw us a bone Klei and make it a guaranteed drop from killing him!

Then krampus sack would be easy item and everyone learnt how to drive Shadow Bishop to kill enraged Klaus. Also it seems easy to cheese the klaus by standing on a boat.

Shadow Bishop and boat nerfing are coming.

By this logic every Boss shouldn't have drops since every Boss can be cheesed in this game.

Can’t speak for the other devs but I seem to recall Zark being against the idea years ago because - and I’m likely paraphrasing this a bit - Enraged Klaus was intended to be solely a punishment to players for doing the fight incorrectly and the idea of adding rewards to the harder fight would go against that.

Enraged Klaus is a lose state intended to force you away from the fight for doing it wrong. Adding unique loot to this lose state would not only entirely muddy the point, but would also encourage very boring gameplay where you count your attacks until you've got phase 2 Klaus a few hits away from death, then kill a deer to enrage him, and hit him a few more times to kill him and get a Krampus sack.

Doesn't he enrage in his current phase and also retain his HP as a ratio? It's been quite awhile since I've triggered this, but I swear that's how it worked.

But that would mean you could just nudge him down to a few HP points, kill the deer, and profit.

What exactly does this have to do with the beta? Did you mean to post in general discussion?

It was stated to be a bit off topic in the post. It's not uncommon to mention changes to the game that can be made in Beta.

Doing a fight "incorrectly" to the point that it unlocks a different version of an enemy with different mechanics seems like a lot of work to not give some kind of reward for doing it the "wrong" way and still beating him.

He can easily be modified to just gain full health whenever a Deer is killed. It's not an easy fight and there's no punishment loot-wise for any other Boss from doing it "wrong".

As dated and maybe boring as this sentiment is, the devs did intend enraged klaus as a "you messed up" state, even though there's a lot of cool potential there for a challenge mode of an otherwise pretty straightforward boss. Joeschmoecoolguy made a cool speedrun of killing him, but as other posters have said, without a redesign to how Enraged Klaus works, it would basically give you free Krampus sacks every winter, or every 15 days or w/e during the Christmas event. You can:

  • Shoot him from a boat
  • Have nightmare pieces fight him
  • Whip him from a boat
  • Get him stuck between statues, lureplants, etc
  • Catapult him
  • Get him down to 1hp and then kill his deers, then 1 shot him

So perhaps with a full redesign of Enraged Klaus this could be done, and probably should be done if he were to be remade, because requiring Wickerbottom to effectively Krampus sack farm really does suck imo.

Krampus sack is more of a boss to production challenge you gotta figure out to gain, Klaus becoming enraged is a punishment after all as Jazzy and Klei said, not to be engaged with just cause you decided to go against the intended target.
