How would you make shadow maul useful?

Recommended Posts

I think the healing is fine, I don't see the use in it on anyone except Wormwood, but I've seen a lot of people saw it's powerful. (clearly they haven't seen jellybeans or trailmix)

I'd probably use it more if it was a significantly better axe. better than a gold axe, worse than a glass one, and to get it you have to kill 9 bosses AFTER rifts AND obtaining a super heart.

The maintenance is also an Issue I have with it. Losing all 3 levels is a lot, yeah yeah, uncompromising yadda yadda, but if one mistake can cost all that time, then I do not want that kind of stress from an item that only does 4 more damage than its predecessor weapon. (scythe)

It can be fire for Warly and Wormwood players honestly. For some others I would not go outta the way from shadow reaper but in those two cases I see them exceling a lot about fighting if u manage. The only thing I would do is extend the time of the hunger meter because having to bundle to negate it just makes it annoying.

Literally i'd just make it not lose progress. You kill the giants once and it is max level and you're done, it's fed. Having to keep feeding it is why I don't use it over a Flint Axe... The juice isn't worth the squeeze. (Granted I only use it for the axe)

Golden light style repair using it on your character allows it to hit yourself and repair it,the shadows is all about sacrifice atleast thats what i understod about the ancients so what about hurting yourself for more power

The maul regains durability if you hit enemy's with full Hp. This creates a loop that if your bad, you gain a weapon that will help fix your mistakes. If you're good, you no longer need to use an absurd amount of repair kits. I would also make tree chopping fill some hunger, but at a reduced rate to act as a buffer between kills.

I think there are four problems with it:

1. It requires maintenance. The fact that you always have the feeling in the back of your mind that you need to manage this weapon in addition to all the other things you're supposed to manage makes it not worth the trouble.

2. At max potential, it's barely stronger than the Shadow Reaper. Why go out of your way to level this thing up and spend the mental effort to manage this weapon when at best, it deals 4 more damage than something you can get instantly and hassle free?

3. It doesn't look cool enough to be the strongest weapon in the game. I for one would use it more if they made it a living sword, but there already are so many swords.Ā

4. The chopping uses just as much durability as an attack which makes using it to chop stuff much more expensive than normal.

It's most useful upgrade to the scythe in the lategame for anyone that plays worlds longer than usual. Alternative being the scythe if you're looking for damage while speedrunning or having reliable enough damage boost.

i use this always. juicy dps, especially with bone armor. ive been playing wendy more often and love the extra dmg too. and the insanity doesnt matter as much since even with wendy i do good dmg to nightmares, and they fuel my bone armorĀ

I wouldn't mind a durability buff tbh. Or at least not losing the charge on it's break. Either or really, it could cost more to repair but be generally more reliable than the scythe on it's full potential. Generally still a good weapon, tho anxiety rises high when it reaches that 1%. I actually lost the charge once cause of not paying enough attention.
