Mike23Ua
I have bought this game for around 20 people, out of those 20 Theres maybe only 2 who still play the game..? I think, truth be told that it’s too much of a highly complex game with a ton of different gameplay mechanics that they need to learn and understand, and with each content update that complexity gets even more difficult to understand.. this goes extra especially true for anyone who does not watch Twitch/YouTube videos or read about the game on Wikipedia pages. And the game does next to nothing to help the player with its vague & cryptic lines of text.. like for example: You’d have no idea what most of their skill tree perks even do, if you didn’t look that stuff up online or watch videos about it. I play mostly alone, but I do sometimes randomly hop into someone else’s world and just play in their server for a bit to just run around as a randomly rolled character to see how long I can survive. _mylilsunshine_
I'm a very sweaty player. I want to play exactly how I like it, and would get frustrated by others. Back when I used to play on a Minecraft server with acquaintances (online), I'd often progress so far ahead that everyone got bored, but I couldn't wait for everyone to come on and play together. When I play Stardew Valley, I like to min-max profit and go deep skull cavern delving, I don't play the game in a relaxing, chill & cozy manner. I like to do things my ways, so the same goes for DST. Evelo
Don't Starve Together, Alone as I say with my friends. I play solo 99% of the time. Very rarely my friend is interested in playing. Castiliano
I've always looked for multiplayer. While playing solo, I don't have the same enthusiasm. There are some games that I only really started playing when multiplayer was added, like Don't Starve and Stardew Valley. I'm In love with Rotwood, actually. dengta72
The game content of Don't Starve Together is richer. I also want to play with my friends, but due to our respective work reasons or gaming habits, we have relatively little time to play together. Most of the time I play alone. The online time is more casual, and I can set the game schedule myself without having to consider other people's feelings, which makes me more relaxed. I mostly play alone. I have about 2K hrs experience and probably more than 500 hours of reading/updating the Wiki pages and watching videos and asking questions on Twitch. I generally play with the following Wiki pages open: https://dontstarve.fandom.com/wiki/Crock_Pot/Recipe_Table If I'm gardening (Wurt/Warly): https://dontstarve.fandom.com/wiki/Farm_Plant#Summary If fishing (a least until I get the Stuipfying Lure): https://dontstarve.fandom.com/wiki/Lures#Usage Beefalo taming (I never get steel wool early enough to craft a brush - if I even find a Ewecus, it kills me): https://dontstarve.fandom.com/wiki/Beefalo#Domestication If playing as Warly (wow, he's hard and complicated): https://dontstarve.fandom.com/wiki/Portable_Crock_Pot In addition, I use mods like CraftPot and Insight. I also make about a page of notes for each game, listing where all 10 sinkholes/cave-stairs go and a to-do list. There's no way I can juggle all that in multiplayer, so I just wing it. Most multiplayer games usually only last 2 hours. Everyone leaves when winter starts, then the server resets. I haven't found friends I can play regularly in the same world with. The first time I fight each boss, I make a new world and set up the fight using the console. Then I practice for 3-10 hours, using the console and then usually die and rollback 3-10 times in my actual game. People say the bosses aren't too hard. I've complained about that a few times, but now I just use the automatic health adjust to scale boss health with number of players. That makes the game playable for me. I'm probably somewhat neurodivergent. I *need* to stop and think about what I'm doing periodically and unless I'm hosting a server locally, that doesn't happen in multiplayer. I often open the crafting menu to pause, and spend AN HOUR reading and watching videos (about DST) before returning. When I do host multiplayer locally, I make due with pausing for about 2-5 minutes once every 45 minutes or hour. I wish the game did that automatically. You can take care of a lot of human necessities and get a little stretching in and make sure you don't dehydrate with that. Most people just leave the first time I pause, so clearly I'm an outlier there. Hungry French
The game on servers is unbearable lags and people who play using cheese and the most dishonest strategies (which Klei gave them ) Playing alone is literally a degraded version of DS, which has added a bunch of content that is balanced and works adequately only in the team. I only play in Uncompromising mode, because without it, DST is literally DS, which has been ruined by the existence of multiplayer. Klei why couldn't you just add multiplayer to the DS as you planned... Recently my friends started a Minecraft server. But it was a free server, with a high possibility of us getting hacked because 1 little random guy, a friend of a friend, didn't actually had the game, and was playing on a pirate launcher. I still agreed to join, and after 5 minutes of gameplay, I see my homie convincing everyone to put keepInventoryTrue, because the last time we played the game, he lost all of his diamonds to lava. This rule will completely and utterly remove the survival aspect of the game, in my opinion, it's easier to just cheat already and use creative mode since you're not gonna lose anything anyways, so I left. Days later, you'll be playing dst with someone, and they'll invite you to a new server. Only to have QuickPick, More Inventory Slots, Backpack Armor Amulet Clothing and Rain gear all at the same time (amazing isn't it?), global positions (because they can't bother using flares or a compass which is omega cheap), the world settings with triple the amount of resources in a world with the smallest setting. I couldn't f**ing walk a tile without passing 1 reed, 3 twigs, 3 grass and a berry bush. Then the dude decided to rush the ruins and died. But because we are so lucky, a miracle happened, it was amazing, and I had recovered faith in humanity after that, he was revived by the good and great amazing filled-with-love Shenanigans. I don't know who that guy is, but he's always reviving people and I find that just simply amazing. I see that sometimes, a tamed beefalo will randomly spawn on-sight sometimes after the old one suspectfully died in a swamp, weird.. Must've been that shenanigans guy. And that's why I mostly play solo. But I do enjoy some public sessions every once in a while On 11/30/2024 at 1:01 AM, dengta72 said: The game content of Don't Starve Together is richer. When I was a teen, maybe 12 to 16, my friends wouldn't mind starting a terraria gameplay, and we would go all-in. 4pm after school, everyone was in the server, and we would only play that for 6 to 7 hours. People would actually put work into it, and dedicate time for gaming. Today, gaming with my friends feels more like a little 1 hour window with a game where you can go in and go out at any time, they only play games without commitment now. I can work all day, and I'll still have a reason to play dst. I can spend 8 hours commiting to my job, and I'll still spend 4 to 6 commiting to dst, but it's rather different from them. Games like fortnite, league of legends and csgo are games where you can go in, play as many matches as your body needs, consume that dopamine release, and then leave. Unironically, someone who only plays to feel good for 1 to 2 hours, and want that maximum dopamine release and pleasure throughout the session, is a way more addicted person compared to the 6 hours, 7 hour player who went into Satisfactory and decided to spend 3 hours out of those 6 doing something they don't like, just for the joy of accomplishing things. I also cannot play without the DST Alone mod. The lag is also another big thing for me. I'm literally unable to play with my russians friends unless I travel there, and even still, there will be lag, like, I don't mind the 200 or 300 miliseconds from playing with people from the other side of the globe, as long as it is consistent and not random like it currently is. I can play League of Legends on 199 ping, and I'll get used to it in 2 to 3 matches, the game is super smooth even with a delay. My brother, who has a buffed pc, was at my house, and we have a very nice internet. We were both using cables and he put the world to local, so only I could join. It was STILL laggy, I had 20 ping for some reason. Putting the Lag Compensation to Predictive would mean a smoother gameplay, but then I couldn't kite nightmare creature. I can even start a server for myself, with OFFLINE options, and a new-gen computer, and it still lags. Klei really needs to find a fix for this issue, half of the negative reviews on steam are about how they can't play with their friends without lagging, because they live thousands of miles left in the world. Then you have games like csgo and league, which can place 10 people in a match, and all pixel perfect shots and effects hit each other seemly perfectly. I actually have no idea how this lag thing works, and how to fix it, or why it is so bad, I just know that I feel frustrated playing with friends. Maybe because I got used to DST Alone. The Starver
On 1/21/2025 at 3:43 AM, Swiyss said: Unironically, someone who only plays to feel good for 1 to 2 hours, and want that maximum dopamine release and pleasure throughout the session, is a way more addicted person compared to the 6 hours, 7 hour player who went into Satisfactory and decided to spend 3 hours out of those 6 doing something they don't like, just for the joy of accomplishing things. That’s... surprisingly profound. I’m going to start this off by saying that multiplayer is my favorite part. I love doing stuff together. I don’t love the issues. My big beef with DST is not, probably, even related to the game. Whenever I attempt to enter the caves, that entire save is aggressively broken. It becomes no longer possible to open the world. It’s super demoralizing to spend 15 mins waiting, only to be kicked back to world select. It’s not even sometimes, it’s every time. You want to know a fun fact? Without Caves, the game is very sad. No lantern, no ruins, no easy mushrooms. All you get are the bats. I think the issue is caused by playing on a switch, but I’m too cheap to buy it on Steam just yet, so instead of me (a total noob) learning how to rush ruins with my friend (a worse noob who’s literally always hungry and insane), which would be fun, we just sit around and freeze while starving in the dark during Winter. I’m not saying it would be any better with Caves, but maybe (just maybe) we’d be able to see ourselves die. So, sorry for going a bit off-topic, but I just wanted to explain.
