Could it be possible to let Slurtle lose life when it eats Salt Crystals?

In real life, slugs and snails cannot retain moisture in their skin when they come into contact with high concentrations of salt, resulting in dehydration and death. Could we make Slurtle and Snurtle suffer consequences for their gluttony? Salt Crystals cannot be dropped by earthquakes; they must be carried by players. There will be no cases of Slurtle dying inexplicably. Perhaps we could make it so that Slurtles killed by Salt Crystals always drop Shelmet, since they are dehydrated from the inside out, and their shells are not subjected to any impact that would cause them to break into Broken Shells.
 

Like feeding a Red Cap or a Stuffed Night Cap to greedy people in the forest world?
I really prefer this scheme of using intelligence rather than just brute force to acquire items.
Perhaps Collected Dust and Amberosia could have the same effect?

This'd be a good small detail to include in Klei's efforts to spice up the caves, I'm all for it. It'd also make actually using shell armors on a regular basis viable and Slurtles not something to be completely ignored.
