ZeRoboButler
Okay number one, how do these mimics work and how exactly are we meant to get the possessed hearts? As for number two, Is Rictus meant to have an intended way of combating him? I have noticed that Aoe is something that seems to stun the thing, but I have a hard time thinking of good options for pre rift outside of a few character specific stuff like wormwood's armor. This is especially interesting to me as I am wondering what the options are for the player In the event you don't have bright shade armor already or some form of aoe that characters like most of the "skill tree'd" cast seems to have. (Dumbells, lunar flames, moose charge? not sure on that one but I hope you get the idea) Perhaps i'm just a little short sighted on this and im not considering all the options, would love if people could share current effective ways of dealing with Rictus. lowercase skye
I use Slurtle Slime! Ink Blights spawn in the caves, and by the time rifts are open it's going to have been long enough for Slurtles to have slimed all around their dens, so I just pick some up from the nearest den if the fissure spits out a group of Rictus. You have to time it kind of carefully, but it's really fun and probably the cheapest method out there. ADM
Two simple ways to force the Rictus out of hiding that I've been using so far is Hutch with the thorn effect, stay around Hutch until the attack is releasing and it'll hurt itself. Other thing is to keep a chest by the fissure with a torch, and a handful of Slurtle Slime, you have a big range of time for the explosive to be effective and position the inkblight over the slime and keep a distance from it yourself, that will… blow its cover. For the Possessed Atrium, Chest Mimic will gobble items on the floor so you just have to leave one by them or put it in them directly would surely works too. Then once it is killed the heart will be changed and drop, which can be picked up using Traps. Mike23Ua
I can’t play in betas, but the Brightshade staff should probably bounce off of stuff and be the most effective way to locate him? Rictus. It doesn't feel bad I'd say since this stalking can follow you over insanely long distances (hopefully it's intentional) so they're as optional as they're persistent if you made your way past any fissure. That'll usually mean you don't manage to get them in your cave base but if you venture out... chances are if they're selected as the thralls, you'll have some new hasslers until it's dealt with. If I were to say there's a problem about the encounter it's more of a worldgen issue and the spread of the fissures which is very condensed over only 3 places while caves are mad-large for no good, doesn't make them very collaborative with the rift-content but that's a problem I hope gets tackled when Klei decides to actually put their hand on the worldgen (on my worlds they're already quite reworked and I sure have a good time with fissure spread, I don't have the full vanilla-feel of it, surely worse). Yeah okay but let’s compare the caves rift content (and we all know caves are intended to be harder than surface content..) to Surface Rifts Content. You gotta go out of your way to find these Cave Rift Threats AND on the Surface- Brightshades come to find You. Not sure if this is fitting or not, but if you want post rift challenges that are “unavoidable”, the lurking nightmare in the ruins (and I think the fissures?) during nightmare phases is way up there, especially because it commits a cardinal sin of moving while attacking. I mainly say this because I am pretty good at handling 3-4 shadows while clearing the ruins during nightmare phases, but the lurker is extremely dangerous on its own and only becomes much more difficult in groups. I know it’s technically optional because you have to go into the ruins, but given the fact that literally everyone needs to go to the ruins anyway to fight weaver and are likely going to continue doing the ruins afterwards, I would say this is a very noteworthy threat. You just reminded me of a question I always want to ask and no one ever bothers to answer for me. Ive never killed AFW but apparently upon doing so it’s supposed to “reset” the ruins or caves or whatever… And I was just curious since DST is a MULTIPLAYER game, what happens in this scenario? like I mean… if a player built a cave base and some way more skilled player comes along and kills AFW, what happens to this persons base??? I once built a base for example in the lunar grotto/sealed archives because I loved it and thought it was a very beautiful biome, but then once players solve the puzzle and reawaken the sleeping dangers down there, obviously this became a bad location to choose to base in. I feel like Klei is still trying to design a single player game, without accounting for the consequences of others around you’s actions. If this is troublesome to a hypothetical player, I don't know what they expected putting a base inside the Ruins to begin with.
