Bridges shouldnt break

Recommended Posts

I dont really get the point of it. They are really expensive, and break after a few earthquakes. Maybe if they were really cheap it would be fine, but i dont get why there cant be a permanent bridge. Nobody will make these in this case since spending a ton of resources to get over a gap temporarly is a bad deal.

Bridges should break for anyone stupid enough to craft them over using a lazy explorer.

In spite of this, stone bridges should be introduced which are supported by pillars and don't have durability.

I think they would be really useful for decorative purposes and for cave bases in general. If you look closely at a caves map you can notice that the terrain is more segmented with no real large swaths of land like in the Forest. (Below is a picture of an older caves from the ds wiki, but it still shows my point)

So bridges could be used in those small gaps to connect the landmass and make basing easier/more fun. The breaking mechanic to me feels unnecessary and not really fun. I think they should do what the pillars did and make the base version decently strong and always repairable, and then have a more permanent solution for late game. Have a nice day!

Do you realize how bad the base wood bridges are? They're outclassed in every single way by lazy explorers.

I agree, but the reason I like them isn't fully because of their functionality. They look really good in my opinion, I would love to have some in a cave base. Also lazy explorers are expensive and have a sanity cost. Since bridges break with no way of fixing them, I agree now that they are not really that good. But if they had a way to be repaired and have a good longevity then I would much prefer to have a system of bridges in my base, and then use the lazy explorer when exploring or traversing outside my base.

Does pillars protect bridges against earthquakes? If they do, the bridges are in an alright spot. If not, bridges could use an adjustment.

I dont think you can repair them and there is no dreadstone version.

Also the pillars were a need not a want. The bridges seem redundant.

I would love to see the cost of bridges being toned down first things first. They are too expensive for something that breaks so easily. If that's intended by design, then it would be reasonable to have a more expensive bridge that doesn't break over time, to justify the cost. Stone bridge suggested in this topic is a good alternative and would fit well thematically with stone pillars.

Also please Klei don't introduce another structure that requires upkeep. I love the look of stone pillars a lot more than dreadstone pillars visually but they are such a chore to repair if you have more than one in your cave base.
