gaymime
a title that is sneaky because it gets people other than joe to look as well : D in all seriousness though, after reading through a few spicy threads it passed my mind to send a lovingly typo'd letter to joe asking him to tell whomever worked on the surprising seeds(like from concept to coding to art to internal testing) that they are wonderful and made one silly boy very happy but then it also passed my mind that we as a collective on this forum don't spend nearly as much time talking about what we love about the game as we do things that are broken or could be better or bother us in some way which brings me to the point of this thread: imagine the staff could see you, just for a moment; what thing about dst(and if you do not play dst then the klei game you do play) made you feel love for the game? preferably something more recent but anything would do. remember, you aren't saying this to your fellow forumites, this is for the staff. i will start; i love, unabashedly the sound of thumping across the boards of my cookie boat and then the splash of a dropping anchor. it makes me feel the memory of my teenage self going up and down docks and playing in the cold water while the warm sun on my back when it was still strong and broad and i had the grip to handle wet jute rope and could pull a boat onto the land by my own strength alone. i just simply never get tired of it no matter how many times i do it. thankyou<3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/158457-sneaky-joew-bait-thread/ Share on other sites
NPCMaxwell
The "voices" (instruments) and the general art style because they remind me of.........my obsession I have with cartoons with funny proportions, my obsession with "voices" (just that they are music instruments here, ones that imo are perfectly chosen to resemble the voices, also makes it easier for me to imagine the voices in my mind instead of having to live in constant fear of voiceactors dying / being replaced one day). I also adore all the dark tone this game / the background story has, since I prefer not everything always being 100 percent wholesome in my favourite fandoms. But then in combination with humour it gets even better. And that the game does NOT have an ending. If there is one thing I am always been sad about is knowing that a game has "this and that" many tasks to do and then you are done. I prefer endless / permadeath that never gives me the feeling I have to "archieve" something or progress. Anyway this is how Klei basically managed to create two games (DS + DST) that have about everything my favourite game needed. DegenerateFurry
Since I see too much negativity and not enough positivity about Klei's efforts this year: I really like how much variety this game has in it and how the devs are constantly adding more and more. The updates, especially this year, actually feel meaningful - I'm glad they've decided to take them slower. Winona went from being viewed largely as a swap character to being something more people actually want to play, for example, and Willow became a viable character. I'm extremely grateful for the moonstorm QoL (the fact that you only need one Restrained Static) and plenty of the other quality-of-life features. Having fought reworked Crab King, I can say that I see it as a major improvement. I actually found myself using different gem types strategically to prevent certain things from overwhelming me instead of just having an easiest type to spam, and using an ice staff to freeze some of his minions (and no, I didn't spam purples). Also, did you know that if you happen to get a world where he's close enough that you can build docks to him, his cannons can destroy the docks? Because they can, so you do need to account for that. It's still quite challenging, but it's challenging in a fun and variable way instead of a "get the pattern perfect or drown instantly" way. The Scrappy Werepig is a fun and cool fight, and although I do kind of wish his loot was better, it does still have the fun factor (unlike Toadstool, which is too grindy for me to feel like it's worth doing most of the time) that makes it worth doing at least once per world. Mike23Ua
I love how Don’t Starve the single player game had all these expansion pack “worlds” that could interconnect with one another, I loved to for example: Be be able to play as Walani in Reign of Giants World where having her surfboard did NOTHING but look cute as a base cosmetic if I dropped it on the ground. I loved that Base DS, Hamlet & Shipwrecked each offered a different “type” of survival experience for the franchise, like how Hamlets gameplay centered around exploring dangerous booby trapped temples, while shipwreckeds gameplay centered around sailing through the oceans around an archipelago on a boat that decayed overtime needing maintenance and repairs. I like DST too don’t get me wrong, but there’s only so much of the same old DST that I can enjoy.. till I desire MORE, preferably huge 15$ DLC expansions that shake up the gameplay as much as SW & Hamlet do. As far as the things I’ve enjoyed most about the most Recent DST update: OTTERS, Winona’s structures being portable now, and the “Heated” Spotlight. People dismiss the heated spotlights.. but they actually save you resources and won’t be targeted by nightmare hands and shut off. though to be honest: Perhaps in lights out mode they should be targeted by nightmares hands, or have new animations where Charlie unscrews the bulb and you have to go pick it up and re-socket it back in. Idk… it feels like “cheating” in Lights Out mode to me. But OTTERS for the Win! <3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/158457-sneaky-joew-bait-thread/#findComment-1736878 Share on other sites

flamboyant wolf
I love a lot about the game, but I'll focus on beefs today. They're so amazing. DST has, perhaps, my favourite mount mechanics, among all of the games I've played. The taming process is also really satisfying to learn and master, and it's quite rewarding as well! lowercase skye
The music in this game (and Don't Starve) is absolutely fantastic and only gets better as the days go on. Music is one of the most important things about a game's vibe to me, and DST just absolutely nails it. The way those simple ~30 second loops have evolved into such cinematic full-length tracks is incredibly impressive. I wish we had more information about the composers, honestly, a lot of the other devs are pretty active either here or on streams, but all we know about the composers is just seeing the names of who did what on the official soundtrack, which is FAR overdue for an update. I'd love to know who I should be directing my compliments at and for what, like for example all the trailer tracks on the soundtrack are labelled as "Vince De Vera & Emmett Hall', but is Emmett Hall a guy who only does the music for trailers, or has he had involvement in DST/Hamlet's in-game music? They're both listed in the credits (along with Jason Garner, who was the co-composer for Don't Starve and RoG, but his name disappears starting with Shipwrecked), but the credits are just a list of names without any details as to their role. So... I guess that's what I'd put in the "letter to JoeW" being described above, lol, pat the composers on the back, and make it more clear who did what! Whether that be through updating the soundtrack or the credits or whatev. Reiko24
I agree with you on the Suspicious Seeds part. To be honest, I played solo DS recently, and the DLCs are very fun, but it has too little challenges for me. That's why I like that Klei is adding new challenges to overcome/defeat all the time, like bosses or lunar hail. I really love that they are kinda active within the community, mostly lurking but really honestly reading our input. I also like that they are not afraid to take risks with the game. The artstyle, music, and vibe makes the game a masterpiece. The amount of different playstyles you can do in this seemingly only "survival" game, as some newbies would see it and sit in their base and try to survive, is really impressive. Boss rushing, megabasing, casual play, farm engineering, special challenges you can do for yourself fe. basing in caves, if you play with other people you can dedicate yourself to farming, killing bosses, building stuff, building farms, etc. Edit: And about the Suspicious Seeds: I hope we get more!
