Mike23Ua
Hey I hope you guys at Klei take the time to read and can relate to this.. Today I have learned that Naraka Bladepoint (a game me and my friends used to play a lot together..) is being Discontinued on Xbox One, the game will still get updates and be supported on Newer platforms (PS5, Xbox Series X/S) but I used to be able to play this game from my X/S with my last Gen friends who can’t afford to upgrade to new consoles. This isn’t the first game that has done this, Dead By Daylight (a game also originally released on Xbox One) now crashes repeatedly for last Gen players. It is always a mix of emotions for me, I’m thrilled to have prettier graphics, faster frame rates larger levels etc… but at the cost of losing the ability to play with my less fortunate friends? It’s heartbreaking.. I KNOW it’s only a Matter of Time before you folks at Klei make the next Gen shift, and I’m worried that when you do, I won’t be able to play the game with my last generation buddies anymore. While yes I mostly play alone, I do have a few last Gen Xbox friends who (for the time being anyway…) can play with me even though I’m on a Series X/S. Now I will admit that there are huge problems with this backwards compatibility and I once even shared a video of how I would load into a world a full minute and 30 seconds ahead of the last Gen host, which means- The game saves a new restoration point before they even load back into their world. It’s an issue with the newer consoles simply loading a full minute and a half faster. BUT… DST isn’t even updated to X/S versions yet, I’m simply playing it in my X/S through backwards compatibility. I worry that once the game gets updated to a true X/S version (like Naraka & Dead by Daylight have) that last Gen support will be discontinued. and I simply want to beg Klei NOT to do that.. if I have to be the “Host” and invite my last Gen friends to join as a “Client” fine whatever, but please don’t take away the few friends I’ve actually talked into playing DST with me when y’all decide it’s time to upgrade to next Gen platforms. PC players don’t really ever even need to think about or be bothered by this issue, but it’s a rather worrying (& now pretty common place trend) Im seeing with the games I USED to be able to play with my last Gen friends. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if Multiversus, Fortnite & Fallguys stops working on Last Gen platforms soon too. Sesekriri
Keeping old consoles backwards compatible is a huge tax on developers, which doubly effects smaller developers like Klei. I understand that it sucks but live service games being sundowned on consoles is part of the price you pay playing on Consoles vs PC. Its just not financially viable. _zwb
things like this makes me wonder why would people play dst on console instead of pc + controller. imagine losing access to a game you've purchased because you can't upgrade your device Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/157611-a-humble-request-from-a-frustrated-xbox-gamer/#findComment-1729958 Share on other sites

Good gaming PCs are pricey, but then don't require much money afterwards (at least not for awhile), while consoles are generally cheaper but still have to worry about stuff like this. I don’t know how to explain this but it’s not about keeping backwards compatibility going, in the case of Naraka Bladepoint the new season map is just too big and full of content that would quite literally explode last Gen consoles (okay not explode but you get the idea..) What your saying actually contradicts this though.. Because if companies were paying to much to support backwards compatibility the DST would ONLY work on the Xbox One and wouldn’t launch at all on the Series X/S (an older game being played on a newer console = Backwards compatibility, because your playing something from a platform that is behind in technology.) Therefore, no it’s not hurting Klei or anyone else for that matter to have backwards compatibility, then only time it actually DOES hurt them is when the updates they want to release have to be limited and consolidated down so they still run on the last Gen Hardware. This is why companies like Rockstar ditch backwards support altogether (Xbox 360 version of GTA V never got a casino you could go inside or vehicle interiors) 35 minutes ago, _zwb said: things like this makes me wonder why would people play dst on console instead of pc + controller. imagine losing access to a game you've purchased because you can't upgrade your device I’ve explained this several times before- but it’s so much easier to see the logo X/S and know instantly that that game is going to work and actually run on my console then it is to worry about PC minimum spec requirements, rather or not I’ll need to upgrade software or go by a new SD card to play “insert game here” or other things and reasons, like hacker aim bots, and viruses.
