Rotwood Powers Beta now live!

Hello!

Today we are opening a beta branch to test the new Powers we have been working on before we release the rest of the update to beta.

The starting pool of Powers is a little thin right now which can result in a lot of runs feeling the same, especially before you've started to discover new Powers from the Spring Ports.

We have more long-term plans in place to further improve per-run variance, but to start with: today we've added nearly twenty new Powers available from the start of the game.

We are looking for feedback on these Powers! We will be keeping an eye on community discussion and reading all of your F8s, with a keen interest in what wacky and OP combos you all come up with. As feedback arrives, specifics around these Powers, such as their names, descriptions, and tuning, will likely change a bit over this beta.

How to play

  1. Close Rotwood if it is running.
  2. In Steam, click on Library > Games.
  3. Scroll down to Rotwood.
  4. Right click, select Properties.
  5. Go to the Betas tab.
  6. In the dropdown, select the 'publicbeta' branch. (You may need to restart Steam to see this branch)
  7. In that same properties window, go to the Installed Files tab.
  8. Click Verify integrity of game files.
  9. Your game will now be updated to the beta branch.

Save files
The beta branch uses a completely separate save file, due to its experimental nature.

The beta branch is to gather feedback and ensure stability before release to the live game. If you were to copy over your existing savefile, it would work, but it is strongly recommended to store a backup of your save file if you did so. We are not treating this branch as a live branch, so we will not be taking extra precautions to support moving your save file back to the live branch.


What’s next?
Our team is hard at work creating the next Hunt for you and your friends to enjoy which will be coming up for you all after we polish up these new powers, 

Soon after this beta concludes, we will be opening up a beta branch for the next Hunt: Bonechill Quarry. This will include a completely new environment, a new Boss Rot and Rot Miniboss, new enemies, new armour and weapons, more new Powers, new decorations, bug fixes, and a familiar friend who has found their voice.

Fixes

  • Fixed an issue where it was possible to miss getting a heartstone for a given frenzy level if you joined a run during a bossfight

  • Fix crash when using No Contest online with a Striker or projectiles.

These new powers ARE SO FUN

  • 1v1 - very useful, especially alone for strong rots and if you have dice roll the bonus builds up super fast
  • Aura Aura - hilarious, the animation rocks, and gives you the overconfidence that will be your downfall
  • Body of Light - haven't seen it
  • Destruction Therapy - haven't tried cause I'm playing alone for now
  • Deus Ex - I love it. It's so ridiculous and of course it activates on mobs when in a boss fight. + Imposing Presence spamming attacks works great
  • Flicker - wow. This is amazing. Macros are gonna be made with it in mind and it's gonna be insane. Nice visual effect too
  • High Ruler - is insane. Also makes you drunk with power, until you're below half health and wake up
  • Hunter’s Rally - the potential with Righteous Fury looks very promising
  • Hunter’s Pick-Me-Up - I found it pretty useful with powers that give Tefra
  • Imposing Presence - really cool, I can already see it being a nightmare with 4 people (especially with the people who do the heavy jump strategy. I hate it so much)
  • Insult to Injury - Pretty much passive power, especially useful if you're dealing low damage
  • Into the Fray - useful for crowds, fun incentive to just jump in even on low health
  • No Contest - BOOM
  • Phase Out - kinda meh
  • Property Damage - kaboom? Yes. Kaboom. The Molded Grave is doomed
  • Resting on Laurels - useful!
  • Resource Extraction - okay
  • Twist of the Knife - fun finisher, some free crits for other powers

Especially the powers that emulate armor powers are useful, dunno if it's worth keeping the armor powers with these ones tho

  • Fixed crash when using Imposing Presence and Simply Stunning together
  • Fixed a bug where several powers that specified "on Attack" would not work when using the Cannon or Striker
  • Fixed a bug where Twist of the Knife, Insult to Injury and Into the Fray worked with non-enemy targets
  • Fixed a softlock when using Deus Ex against Swarm
  • Fixed Shrapnel not triggering if you also have Property Damage

Body of light is such a good power, I absolutely love it, always craving the high risk-high reward gameplay. I wish that this can become a sort of game mode or option to have it on demand, probably late/end game, no hit challenge runs would be soooo nice :D

Copy the steam save folder in there and paste into the beta folder : go back to "...Roaming\Klei\..." and open "Rotwood_preview" instead of "Rotwood"

You might have to launch the game or create the Rotwood_preview folder manually if it doesnt exist in the Klei folder.

I tried the same thing at the very first day of beta, but I couldn't find the newly introduced power in those imported save files. Not sure it still does so, but I recommend to start new file or use devmode for the test.

  • Fixed powers triggering on enemies that are blocking or invincible
  • Fixed 1v1’s description overflowing
  • Fixed Imposing Presence persistent FX not appearing for network players
  • Fixed Shrapnel not triggering if you also have Destruction Therapy
  • Fixed case where new powers don't unlock for existing save files
  • Update Big Yammo Slammo description to reflect new Healing behaviour as of last update

Looks like that issue is now fixed as of the update above :)
