Caught another instance of this in video form. He even pantomimes if you stand still which is even more jarring. Like, wouldn't he pick one or other? Doing both feels a little strange...

well no? his "voice" is pantomiming and all the other characters talk to the player when they read so he would be programmed to "talk" as well even though nothing comes out(which is why it is silent). have you by chance not done the stageplay? it is the same there. he pantomimes his parts because he does not speak out loud but he is required to(though there is a special thing exclusive to wes there ;D )

....um, the same way you just did? by using his eyes and reading x'''D did you think he was illiterate just because he was mute?

I don't believe he's illiterate, I mean he DOES describe what he sees, just in his own weird way. But if he's meant to be mute, I don't think he would read out a note to the player to show what it says, he mime it out like he always does. I mean, he DOES do it when you're still. Sorry if it sounds like I'm getting in an heated argument. I don't think it's THAT horrible, it's more interesting than anything, just like the man himself

I do know about the special dialog, though. It's sweeter than 10 honey nuggets sitting in an icebox. Though again, he sticks to his role and doesn't speak to the player. The characters don't just read out the notes either, it also applies to gravestones and signs, all except for our good boy Wesley. I'm not sure why the bottles are the exception.

oh i dont think you are even arguing, let alone heatedly i have just never seen anyone interpret it this way and this is my main guy X''D

mostly it is just a clunky(but working) method of letting wes use messages in a bottle and as such be allowed to use that part of the game. if the bottle's contents are posted on screen then it is not necessary to have wes be vocal. quotation marks are also there to further express that this is not the character speaking(if you examine something as a non-wes character you will see there is no quotations when the character is the one speaking)

Might not mean much to me with the other characters, but I finally survived 100 full days as Wes! Next goal is to down the Crab King and defeat the Celestial Champion. Wish me luck!

Though, I wish I could say the same to my angry summer roommate...

The Crab King has been defeated by Wes! (and the massive MASSIVE amount of help from his 60 killer bees) Next up is the archives event and I'll be going into the moon storms in no time!

P.S. Does anyone know if this set up will get the werepigs and hounds stuck? I'm gonna replace the fences with stone but I'm a little worried the row of statues won't work (last full moon, a hound ignored the statues and bit into the fences. Werepigs fell for it, though.)

imagine if the bees had all turned on wes instead, because it's wes

also, i use this setup for the moon event and it's a success 10 out of 10 times

Yeah, I'll probably do that on my next full moon. Unfortunately, my method didn't work and I ended up dying for it. Luckily, I had a meat effigy on standby and revived, but that REALLY ticked me off. I ended up swapping to Wilson to make the opal for the archives, because I don't feel like waiting another 20 days to try that again. Though, that's probably the last time I'm using the portal in my playthrough.

Here's some more screenshots of the misadventures I've came across in my Wes world.

Since dealing with hounds is much more difficult due to the mime's frailty, and the fact that my base is far from mobs like beefalo, tooth traps have become essential for dealing with the pesky pooches, and they work a treat! I even threw in a houndius shootius just to give my arena a little more oomph. I mainly use rain coats in my playthroughs so I'm not too hurt losing out on an eyebrella.

After almost three in-game years, I finally assembled one of the three altars. I could've done the first a lot sooner but I wasn't in the mood to go to the lunar island straight away. Normally I would've gotten the tribute last, but since I failed the moonstone event, I couldn't get the opal to turn on the archives, so I settled with Crab King. Playing as Wes here sure has made my life feel backwards.

Pictured here is one of my few giant harvests. Dragonpie is kinda my go-to meal in spring and summer. Maybe it's a waste, since Wes has exactly the amount of hunger as it restores, but I like that it fills me up to full and has a fast eating animation, so I don't mind.

While waiting for my beefalo to go out of heat to move the last lunar altars, I decided to bide my time by killing scrappy werepig and OH MAN, was this guy a pain in the neck. I can tolerate is little "junk baton" swing, the timing's a little weird but I got used to it, but his shield bash attack is all sorts of annoying. Without a lot fences and junk piles thrown being too small, I was forced to dodge it on my own, and MAN was the timing incredibly tight, even with a walking cane! I eventually had to retreat to get some more armor and a mag, and with the extra speed, I was able to dodge the bash much more easily than before (although I still got hit a few times). Despite how frustrated I was fighting this big palooka, I can't lie that I didn't feel immense satisfaction taking him down. That to me is what makes Wes so fun to play. Relying on your own knowledge, intuition, and experience to take things down instead of relying on OP perks.

Woke someone up for practice. If this guy is half as cool in his actual boss fight as he is in his weaker form, I'm looking forward to it.

he is! buuuut there is a third(pretty) form to try before you commit to a fight!

The 3 lunar altars have been assembled by Wes. Will he be able to deal with the moonstorms? Can he survive the endless onslaught of gestalts? And most importantly: Can this frail mime defeat the Celestial Champion? Find out, on the next episode of Dragon Ball Z! (Or when I get around to posting the screenshots...)

If i may provide unsolicited advice, unless you already are aware, the ratio of tomatoes to dragonfruit is in reverse: you need twice the amount of tomatoes to your dragonfruit for nutrient balance

So having more tomatoes over dragon fruit could give me better chances of having both be giants? If true, then that'll be my go-to ratio come spring!

Wes' Road To the CC:

Fully tamed my Rider Beefalo on Day 174

Found Wagstaff Don't Starve on day 187. REALLY inconvenient that he decided to build his machine in the swamp. I guess it's fitting for the character I'm as playing as.

Making my final gear preparations for fight. I REALLY wanted to make sure I didn't come unprepared. It's not pictured here, but in my fridge I had 20 trailmix, 16 green caps, and a staggering 56 blue mushrooms.

All the excess gear I couldn't fit in my inventory. Like I said, I REALLY didn't want to come unprepared. Even brought a starcallers staff and thermal stone just in case I ended up taking too long.
