The ocean should have more environmental objects

Recommended Posts

The newest addition, the otters, raised a concern I've had for some time, some of the sea contents are completely loose on a blue screen, there's no transition between their setpieces and the rest of the ocean. Otters are simply a grass cookie floating in the middle of nowhere, wouldn't it be more interesting if there was some cut trees, branches and grass scattered nearby? Something similar to this is found in the Waterlogged biome and I feel that it greatly deepens the understanding of it as a living place different from the rest of the ocean, and not just a big tree in the middle of blue, there we can find tree roots coming from underneath, vines hanging...

I think a large part of what makes me see the ocean as something worse than it is is this lack of visual stimuli and aesthetics, sea rocks are not that interesting for most places, they work VERY WELL near Moon Quay island, even more so with these new paintings on the rocks, it gives a feeling of a place hidden on purpose, they take advantage of a unreachable place because they don't want you to get there, as they are criminals. But near Sea Weeds they look completely bland, I know that sea weeds grow from/on sea rocks but they should have more than that, the Sea Weeds mini-biome could really benefit from more variety of small plants around it / a different water color / petals in the water. Being a plant pole is not interresting and looks dull. Pearl Island would be much more interesting with something like the corals from Shipwrecked but with shells making sounds around, Lunar Island could have sharp fragments of glass coming out of the sea as if it were crystallized energy leaking from underneath which we could use to locate the island just like Moon Quay graffiti (Not that I think current Pearl/Moon islands look bad), etc...

This just looks half baked, no matter how viable or interesting sea weeds resources get

Yes, but.... why make it identical to the main land, lol. The big blue is nice.

It's nice for wasting time, the ocean feels like a waste of time early game I hate how this beta is shaping up to not even try and solve any issues of the ocean.

Spent 5 days sailing with a friend, found nothing outside of a few gnarwhails, salt formations and sea weed herds, not to mention the sh- I mean amazing worldgen that makes so you circle around the mainland... Ugh...

At least the treasure loot is nice but it's nowhere near enough.

I don't think the ocean needs to be more full of things, I think the ocean should be bringing MORE things over a course of time to the PLAYER. Kinda like pirate raids, gnarwhales, rockjaws.

I still wanna be fishing for the big fish and have my boat being reeled with me together, it just seems like a fun way to go fishing.

We should get a harpoon gun to latch onto rockjaws or gnarwhales, to either be dragged by them or not let them get away from fights.

Yes, I think it would be cool if some Sea Stack were replaced with Shell Stack in the Pearl Island Sea circle, it would look good (+ extra shells for those who need them)

Here's what it would look like:
