I think Wurt is getting Wolfgang skilltree treatment

Recommended Posts

And nothing wrong with it, it looks like she'll be getting some minor buffs and get general gameplay enhancing to some small degree. She is kinda very strong as she is, though her general gameplay was the biggest issue of being just kinda boring? Merms just felt nothing but buffed pigs.

Merm King all shard effect is a great one ngl. It's not big but it definitely makes it less annoying to deal with. Mosquito buffs feel like an alternative like Wormwood's skills. Probably just extra burst damage if she were to fight without merms.

I think the skilltree is a little undercooked as it didn't charm that many people, if she gets alignment buffs it'll likely either do merms or mosquitos and seems cool in concept. I hope there'll be some sorts of buffs towards damage on mosquitos, if not then at least give us a tier two bug net for gathering insects.

We failed our mission. We didnt say Wurt was bad enough.

Also, Wurt is all over the place in balance, so jokes aside she does not deserve this treatment. She needs something like Willow with some added reworks for balance because of her akward gameplay loop and admitidely dull merm city.

Also, i want a merm character not a mosquito character. Dont want wolfgang treatment.

The mosquito skills feel fitting if Wurt bases in the swamp to give the many mosquito sacks you'll get there more uses. They were already neat for water balloons and little bits of healing but more uses can be neat. If you don't like it, probably a section of the skill tree you can ignore.
We can't fully judge the usefulness yet as we haven't been able to experience the content yet.
The mosquito bomb might be useful more as a distraction than damage. Mosquitos are fast and annoying to hit so they might have a use to grab the attention of enemies and bosses so your merm army gets less hits (if the boss doesn't do AoE damage).

I've seen comments about the shrine being useless but they can be useful for winters. Merms respawn at a much slower rate there so it can definitely shine during winters (unless I'm wrong, been a while since I played Wurt solo).

This isn't true the only mechanic in play at winter is that normal merms don't leave their homes in winter.

Can confirm. You can get merms out early using fire, and they have normal respawn timer. Getting a flingo in Winter is a good idea.

"I think Wurt is getting Wolfgang skilltree treatment" I think that's good. Why? I think Wurt is kind of character that doesn't need skill tree now (Same goes for Wortox, Maxwell even tho a main them) Characters like Winona  and Walter need some update i guess but that's my opinion

I sincerely hope this isn't true. Wurt requires so much time investment that any concerns over power are moot. When people say Wurt OP they're gassing up their favourite character, not complaining about her. She isn't like Maxwell or Wanda at all and I sincerely believe you could get away with making her the strongest character in the entire game as long as you make getting to that point time consuming, time gated and expensive. I see her as similar to PvZ upgrade plants or the Terraprisma in Terraria - yeah its powerful but you also went through so much grind and effort to get it you'd have had a more efficient and easier time doing it the "normal" way.

And this isn't a problem either. Wurt mains love grinding and think Wurt is strong. Non Wurt mains consider it a waste of time and think it is not worth it. Just give Wurt more powerful but overpriced perks and everyone is happy. Please for the love of god don't give her doodoo perks or ones that don't fit her character and playstyle. I promise you Klei, as long as you make Wurt's stuff very slow and grindy you can get away with making it as strong as you like.

I'd disagree since unlike Wurt's case at least he didn't have a character who does does his role better for less than a quarter of the effort he put in she needs more of a incentive to pick her over her easier alternative.

No, Wurt is flawed with big missed potential and needs a skill tree.

Merm 'kingdom" is just a bunch of merm houses stuck together like a factory, ready to be put to death.

Wurt is like old Willow, but not weak.

We only saw a little but in the rhymes with play stream. Not every skill needs to be a good skill. I think it is good to have niche things in the game (like mosquito skills). Maybe you have to take some not so great skills to get the skill that you want. That's fine. I say wait until the beta before grading the skill tree.

It's more so that everyone of the skills shown off ranged from pointless to weak if the mosquito skills end up being all combined into 1 skill point like Wolfgang's elemental dumbells I don't think people will mind too much but if the skills shown are all indiviual abilties that's a hard to ignore amount of the skill tree being bad as in the worst case scenario you have:

1 skill point for the doll, 1 skill point for the healing, 1 skill point for the fertilizer 1 skill point for the mosquito bomb, 1 skill point for the mosquito bomb upgrade, and 1 skill point for the altar. That's 6 skills that don't improve Wurt in anyway and are only really niche at best.

If she get a skill that makes trees that chopped by merm drop 1 more log... Well I would be one happy camper since that means I can just burn the stumps and still have the same yield as when I cut trees normally.

Having the merms dig stumps could be cool too!

isnt it too early to tell considering we didn't even get to see the skill tree layout? kind of odd how many wurt threads there are
feels like a bit of an overreaction no?

Not really since in the stream they said they was gonna give wurt a swap skill tree and the first things they show have nothing to do with merms and only one merm related building

a what skill tree? what does this mean? they literally never said this also
they said that the tree wasn't finalized and literally mention an "amphibian" skill tree section, "swamp mastery" section and "merm civilization" section aswell as mentioning a perk that makes merms smarter...
the skill trees are very far from being finished, i think people ought to recognize that

The merms are currently destroyed by all post rifts content, I wonder how will they tackle that without making her OP or giving her a simple “When wurt is wet, gains planar damage/resistance”.

Maybe we should start brainstorming ideas about her more often, Wurt does not seem to be a popular topic in the forums either.

I mean, I am certain that the final tree is gonna be alright at worst, it's probably gonna be good even, it's just weird that the first thing they've shown were the mosquito skills of all things.

They shoved them because those items were the easiest to implement the other stuff is probably gonna be more complex

It would be really annoying to maintain and utilise so i hope they don't do it.

According to the stream she will have perks around being wet so I assume she could work like some mod characters that use it as a new mechanic, not something annoying you do.
EG: she will no longer freeze when wet and will passively generate wetness as long as she is not starving or gets hit. The more wetness she has the better/stronger new skills she gets.
Or something of the sorts.

I think making merms smarter will let merms do manual tasks without needing more merm types. multiple minion types is more of a webber thing
I hope they will do a lot with Wurt being encouraged to be wet I hope they will make her default wetness 50 and is discouraged to be too hot so she won't dries up

I really hope they don't make the fertilizer useless I want an actually good character specific fertilizer especially because it is only good if you base in the swamp
If we assume that wurt will have 25 perks ( currently character with the most perks is woodie {27} and the least is wigfrid {23} )
then we have 20 more perks we don't know
I would assume we will get 3 more perks in the "surviving in the swamp" (7 total)
8 "amphibian"
8 of the "merm civilization"
and 2 of the alignments perks
