Crab King Rework ideas.

Did You know that you can kill DF's larvae by freezing them (like with an ice staff or gembell)

or interrupt klaus' Deer's abilities with the opposing element.

what if we applied that to Crab King's fight, by having certain moves be canceled out if the player uses the opposing magic on them.

namely:

Geysers being canceled out when targeted by ice attacks (think ice staffs/blue gembells, or even potentialy willows lunar fire)

Freeze getting canceled out by setting Crab King on fire (CK could become immune/heavily resistant to freezing while casting)

Reverting CK's heals by deconstructing him (IE damaging for the about that would've been healed and canceling it out, could net extra stone, barnacles, and broken shells)

perhaps CK could do multiple actions at once, requiring quick thinking in order to cancel them out.

 

further more, how about over generic stat buffs, each gem instead modifies how eager he is to use an ability, 1 gem of that type will enable the ability, the more will increase how much he'll use it over others. socketing more than 1 iridescent or Pearl's pearl should still give CK some sort of stat buff or casting speed buff. to be clear an iridescent gem/Pearl's pearl will enable All abilities.

perhaps CK could harness the power of purple gems to mess with players sanity, which could get canceled out with a use of a star caller staff.

and maybe CK could harness the power of yellow gems to summon a large sun what would greatly increase the local temperature and could cause fires to boats if not canceled out by the use of a telelocator staff, and perhaps the codex umbra's shadow prison/sneak + willows shadow fire could work.

and the constructive abilities of green gems could allow CK to create a swarm, let's say 8, of imposing claws (which could just spawn one at a time [preferably up to 8] randomly nearby him otherwise) this could get canceled out with the use of a lazy explorer, and Wortox could possibly be able to cancel it out by using a soul near CK (ither a Soul hop or releasing a soul could do).

additionally, when using these abilities, it should be apparent what gem HE is using, even if it means making a fake 'holographic' gem.

I wouldn’t change Crab King this heavily. I really like him although I reckon a retuning is much needed but that’s about it (and loot change).

However I gotta say, the idea of counters by using magic like deconstruction staff as he heals is very thoughtful ! I'd take these, it’s a big expense to some but also just the thing if this is where players struggle, understandably. :)

Deconstructing Crab King to interrupt the heal sounds hillarious. My only concern is that ruins staffs are a lot more expensive than purple, red, or blue staffs and have way less durability to boot. But otherwise that does sound quite fun.

Make his loot useful. I have legit never seen anyone use the trident in public servers, from content creators etc, besides in one fish farm video. Being purely progression to kill another boss gives him zero replayability and he feels less like an exciting challenge and more a slog that you need to kill to Celestial Champion. Imagine having a trident, one of the most iconic weapons in history and pop culture, being such a genuinely awful and forgettable weapon. It does 27.5 damage on land and 68 damage on sea. Why not just get a dark sword so you could do 68 damage all the time? And it's other perk is nice but it's not enough to save the weapon. At least make it do 68 damage all the time and maybe let it do more damage to ocean creatures/wet mobs. Who knows.

it'd just turn into a gimmick fight and people would probably complain about inventory management and unlike FW, there wouldn't be other ways to kill him without inventory management, removing claws by teleporting in place also makes no sense

1: that's just an issue of Solo-play, though you could rig CK with certain gems so that he'd use those abilities more then the others, and then just deal with the other abilities when they appear. if your using an iridescent or pearl, the other abilities would still appear, but he'd be most likely to use the ability associated with the gems socketed.

2: perhaps one could just telepoof/soulhop targeting on CK, playing an animation to let you know that that worked.

why would teleportation cancel multiplication?

it'd still be less complex and worse in comparison to current CK since you'd just swap between 6 items and press RMB whenever he does anything

not so much the abilities as much as its with the gems' abilities involved, canceling out green with orange.
