This is an interesting idea I had, and I'm putting it here because I want people to see it, and comment on it, and hopefully give feedback. I know that most people want the DLC characters ported to DST. My angle is, hypothetically, if that doesn't happen, what would be some acceptable new, fresh characters bringing new playstyles to the table? Here are three ideas:

Winters: A blacksmith who starts with an infinite hammer, and can craft a forge and a smelter. The smelter can turn 4 Rocks into 1 Iron Ore, 4 Iron Ore into 1 Iron Ingot, and 3 Iron Ore and 1 Charcoal into 1 Steel Ingot. At the forge, he can craft a Steel Sword (60 damage), Steel Axe (2x efficiency, 200 durability), Steel Pickaxe (same as axe), and Steel Suit(chance to stun enemies)/Helmet. He can also unlock skills to allow him to craft more powerful weapons, like the Chilled Cutlass (64 damage + chance to freeze target), the Lunaslicer (51 damage + 15 planar damage, with 1.25x damage against shadow aligned enemies), or even the Masterhammer, which is very powerful, but requires a complicated process to craft. I have LOTS more ideas, but these are the core of the character right now. Items at the forge cannot be prototyped. He takes extra sanity drain from the caves, as he is claustrophobic. Boats also apply to this.

Wendell: A rock guitarist who starts with a combat guitar, and can craft various types of guitars with special powers. He's pretty chill, but he's not a Winter person, so he freezes a bit faster. He's also irrationally afraid of rabbits and fish of any kind. He has a sanity gain when near plants, however, such as on a farm plot.

Werryn: He's a lunar mage, so his power waxes and wanes depending on the cycle of the moon, with him being faster and harder-hitting, with a sanity gain during a full moon, and slower, weaker, and having a higher sanity drain on a new moon. He starts out with Lux Lunaris, similar to the Codex Umbra, but with different powers. He can prototype the Celestial Filter items, unlike other characters.

If anyone has any tweaks to the ideas or things they think would work better, feel free to post here. Additionally, if they have ideas for what these characters' stats should be, please post them.

I thought about a Bard/Blacksmith-like characters in don't starve a lot, but as much as I absolutely adore the concept, I feel like there's just not that much space for much more characters, especially considering the skill trees are fleshing out the already existing characters(plus Wigfrid getting her songs back in her refresh kinda killed the chances of a bard-like character appearing, sad)

I do think Winona could kinda fill the niche of the blacksmith/toolmaster, though in a more "mechanical" aesthetic, cause aside from more machinery/contraptions and some general building skills idk what else could be added onto her.

A blacksmith would be really cool though ngl, I had this idea about them being able to smith and apply special upgrades to weapons, might add some of my old ideas here later, if I find my old sketchbook.

something something dragon character

and i mean for lunar mage, that would mean in the skill tree just like wormwood there is no shadow path wich means we need 2 shadow only characters....i guess maxwell is a given and wanda maybe aswell so i could see a second moon only skill line aswell

Yeah! I made up a whole backstory for my character, and I did indeed make a way for him to upgrade weapons.

He's part of a three-part adventuring team I made up.

Huh. I never thought of that. Makes sense. A friend of mine had an idea for a character who's really strong in the shadows, but weak to all the lunar stuff.

I'm not sure we need more characters, I think it's better if they focus on making the existing ones more fun and adding content that's not character-exclusive. And I think character stats changing with moon phases is a bad idea, because it can't be controlled until very late game when you find all the altars (or you need a friend to play Wickerbottom and get her a few moon gems). Being weak because of something you have no control over is not fun. For that reason Woodie got the perk to avoid transformation, even though his forms all have benefits and uses. You are suggesting a character who will just be weak and useless sometimes without any way to avoid it.

Honestly, I have no idea what kind of personality a new character could have. I thought of a cautious individual, but Wanda already kinda did that. (I don't think such a person would end up in the constant, anyway).

As for guesses, the last few characters had significant hunger/health/sanity gain and loss alteration (Think Wormwood, Warly, Walter, Wanda, e.t.c., not Wolfgang or Winona), so if a new character was to be added, that is what I'd expect. I don't think we'll get another one, though. Half of them were non-humans, but the idea of adding another barely explained species or a "They did it" specimen doesn't sound that enticing, even if I have a soft spot for termites.

Wonkey is NOT a real character

I still think a rock lobster character would be pretty neat, he would be able to see in the dark.. and because it’s made of rock, it would have a lot of HP (like Wurt or upgraded WX78) the “trick” is that any time the Rocky character gets hit it loses some of its natural body armor, soo.. the lower health it gets (and less rocky..) the faster it can move I’d say give it a 400-500hp but that’s only when fully armored (max hp) and the trade off is moving slower while capped in Rocky-ness..

Then, much like Wormwood can saw it’s limbs off to create living logs at the cost of health.. Rock Lobster can Rip portions of its own armor off to do things such as provide players with flint, rocks, or even cutstone.

This also allows him to lower his own HP to move faster, favorite food could be stone fruit.

has a built in Mating call (like blowing into a Beefalo horn) that makes his face tentacles bellow outward to summon nearby Rocklobsters or Wobster out of their dens.

Idk.. just something new that has yet to be done with a character in DST.

Yeah! I never thought of that. I would really like to see that. Honestly, about the only thing stopping me from modding characters in right now is that my art skills are basically nonexistent.
