Call me entitled, but the Ice Crystaleyezer is the ultimate band aid fix to summer, and not a valid solution.

Recommended Posts

I have no choice but to format clickbait/rage bait. I don't get eyes on my posts unless I open with something controversial. To be honest, I don't even think that it's a particularly bad craft in and of itself and I've made use of it due to it's utility, but it overwrites one problem with another one, and often, it's actively deadlier than summer.

I'm talking in terms of new players who join. Often to escape the grasp of the ice crystaleyezer, a player will run out of the cooling range to warm up and in turn, the world around it is going to be subject to wildfires, the very thing the crystaleyezer is built to protect from. It's irony in it's purest form, and something that adds to the general hostility to summer

The only thing that can fix this is for the host or admin to elect to lock a world while it's up. Setting a password with a console command and removing it at will.

It's a QoL really. I could shut a world down during summer and restart it but it's a waste of time. Especially in a world with high day counts where it's not instantaneous to shut down and start up again.

To address the title, perhaps summer doesn't need an overarching solution. Not every single season can or perhaps should have a means to make it Autumn 2.0
It stops being a survival game at that point.

There are fair problems and there are unfair problems. A fair problem is when something burns in your active area and you have some ice in your pockets or something to put it out.

An unfair problem is if a player who is less knowledgeable about the game wanders into an area and burns it down at no fault of the host's own.

I couldn't think of a more inflammatory title, but I wish I had. I would have wanted this to be the most clickbait title I could muster, but instead, this is all I have.

You can build scale furnaces within crystallizer's range to keep the local temperature above 0 and below 70

I personally don't need to. I manage summer fine on my own, and even then, furnaces are more intrusive than various other methods.

I'm not looking for creative solutions. I'm after a definitive one. We should be able to password lock our worlds mid game somehow. If pausing is possible, surely this is too

It's not for you, it's for those new players joined your game, so they don't trigger wildfire.

I still want more of a reason to actually play through summer instead of doing stuff in the caves until autumn. Summer's only good loot is the decorative stuff from Cult of the Lamb - the Lazy Deserter is still pretty much useless (especially for solo play) outside of letting Wigfrid easily drain her sanity on the lunar island while fighting Celestial Champion, which is pretty niche.

Summer isn't the worst that bad when solo. It's just a better time than every season to spend it in the caves. Say you get a slim ruins gen with like 10 statues, you can be on the surface killing red hounds for red gems. But also, having excess red gems is generally better than having excess blue.

Also, turf raiser helm is great and farming up glass spikes isn't a bad way to go either.

Also, temperature management in summer is far better than winter. You have ice chester and luxury fan instantly cools you down and you stay cool if you use eyebrella.

It's really just the wild fires that get my goat. Not because of me burning something down, but it's someone else.

I've played on my most recent world for 1000 days and I'm running into the same problem with my 12,000. I remember why I switched off wildfires in the first place. Not because of me, but because of others.

That sucks so bad.

If you were using them as a solution I don't think you would also be putting a trail of burnables leading back into it to make wildfires outside of its range a problem.

Entitled.

Good day.

...

Okay, they aren't bad at all, they do their decent function as so does Wicker books which are, I will remind, are global rain inducing meaning no more smolder anywhere and you could call it a bandaid fix but I don't think summer's going anywhere without some kind of other issue or another.

Also they seem to serve one single way of using spark arks that can accumulate if kept being farmed each year passively, they cover most of any bases that exist out there that are fairly decent in size and not foresty wide spanning kinds... I never had any issue with them besides them having that dumb ocuvigil mechanic to make my laptop work overtime.

I carry around a warm hat in summer either beefalo hat or tam and got enough furnaces to keep my base warm when needed, meaning winter ain't gonna be a struggle nor the crystaleyezers. It's a decent solution at best, next best thing will always be playing Max or Wicker for rain books.

... can you not just close the server, add a password, and boot it back up..?

I've said it before in this very post.

Waxing structures like waxing giant crops.

It's more than just that. Grass tufts are non renewable and they can burn. In a way, saplings are non renewable too, the naturally spawning ones. I always wonder why wormwood's skill tree never introduced a grass tuft craft.

Also, prickly trees are another thing that's nonrenewable and can burn. Also cacti.

There's tons of things in the game when lost, can never be brought back.

I actually have an idea that allows for gates and fences to be "coated" with refined scrap at the end of the game so they're fireproof, but that's another thing entirely.

I legitimately believe klei is able to add active password protection on worlds.

If they can add a pause, surely they're able to add a function that actively switches worlds from public to private and back.

There's no reason not to have it. No one loses.
