Why are some people mad that Willow is a mage now??

I guess I was hoping that her skill tree would've been more of a Do It Yourself fire crafting pyromaniac kind of skill tree with fire traps, molotov cocktails. or something like that instead of shooting fire out of my hands while yelling HADOUKEN

I mean.. is it tough? She’s a Wagstaff factory worker who knew how to put his portal back together after it exploded, but.. she’s also got like this “spy” thing going on where she tracked disappearances and what not then Intentionally got a job working with the company causing them.

She knows how to work on WX78 models as seen in WX’s animated short..

AND the Shadowy version of Charlie grabs her hand and pulls her into the constant.

Im pretty sure Klei could come up with some Dark Magic type stuff just from having her hands touch dark Charlie’s.

And If I was to do a Winona skill tree I’d give her a tool box (most her shorts she’s seen with a red tool box) 

Id give her a Wrench that can repair just about anything cause uhh Magic.

And I’d also give her a Workers Footlong Sub Sandwhich, which could be eaten in portions to combat against her stupid getting hungrier while crafting stuff downside.

Explain it all away with “Magic” and call it a day.

Willow on the other hand, deserves a bit more, I’d love to see at the very least- an updated compendium description that explains how she can suddenly conjure fire up with her mind. But an animated short would be lovely here too.

I can throw around a few ideas, such as for example when the moon broke apart and landed in DSTs oceans it “enhanced” a power she never fully realized she even had.

Don't make me envy what we don't have.

I would've killed for something more survival and crafty than hand blasting.

I'm still mad Wolfgang got the Molotov item and was the first character to get fires that didn't actively burn mob drops. Augh.

To add insult to injury Wickerbottom is the first character to absorb flames and even make her own character exclusive fire staff that fills as she absorbs those flames.

These are good ideas and Winona certainly has a lot of potential, but creative skill tree ideas aren't what I think will be difficult for Klei. I was thinking about how the "choosing a side" part of the skill will tie into Winona's split loyalties.

Winona still considers herself to be on the job for Wagstaff but is on a mission to save Charlie. Let's say Winona sides with Wagstaff, wouldn't this further strain her relationship with Charlie? Would people be happy if Winona can choose this path without Charlie retaliating?

On the other hand, while we don't know if Wagstaff cares about any of the survivors, we do know that he trapped former colleague Wx78 in the constant once they began to fight. And even if Wagstaff doesn't care if no one takes his side, won't this be a difficult decision for Winona? She is a workaholic and sneers at anything that makes the work easier. If siding with Charlie means quitting her job, what does that mean for a person who never quits?

What I am saying is, people are going to ask what the downside of Winona's final decision will be. People already believe Maxwell shouldn't have an option to side with Wagstaff, but instead have two shadow skills to choose from. I think a similar expectation will be applied to Winona.

charlie already doesn't mind killing her so that wouldn't change much, one free hit from the darkness implies that it's winona dodging the attack, not charlie trying not to hit her (even the event pushed to winona after a free hit is called "resistedgrue", with grue being the name used for the component that makes players get hit in the darkness and the quote that she says after one free hit is "Ha! I know all your moves!")

If they hire me I'll make her skill tree amazing lol. I'd give her the ability to craft fire bombs using empty bottles and gunpowder/slurtle slime that sets all mobs ablaze in an aoe.

I'd give her the ability to set weapons on fire by coating it in slurtle slime to add fire damage to her weapons. I'd give her an ability to make a ring/wall of fire around herself that would keep mobs from rushing her for a short duration. That's just a few I can think of off the top of my head.

Honestly while crafting different flame based tools sounds really cool and has many avenues to explore part of me believes they went with the magicial route to avoid a issue I kinda have with Walter. That being that he invests so much time and inventory spaces to his crafts that it's almost upsetting how low impact they are.

In Willow's case it's hard to fully question how low impact her fire damage is or how there are a fair amount of enemies immune to fire damage because of how cheap and free the embers are. This is something I really hope klei fixes during Walter's skill tree.
