The game is still difficult for me.

I've got lots of hours in this game and I always try to go the boss fighting route.

I lose often. My run ends more frequently in the ruins more than I care to admit. 

 

Sometimes I don't even find the ruins before winter strikes and at that point, I've wasted all my time.

 

It's a matter of perspective. What you're doing and what your objective is. 

However, if I decided to go the batman route instead of rambo, every boss would be guaranteed. If I decided to establish a settlement before anything else, sure. Perhaps this game wouldn't be as interesting.

 

But right now, the way I play is reflected by my personal demands of getting things done as quickly as possible.

 

Can anyone relate? 
Perhaps the boss run is easy. Maybe you're sub 400 hours and are still having trouble keeping warm and dry.

 

What part of this game is difficult for whoever is reading?

Yep. I've made the mistake of not bringing enough resources to a boss fight. I started to starve during a Toadstool Fight and had to reset and waste 3 days of weapons because I forgot to bring food.

I have 600+ hours of just DST (so nearly doubled if I'd include DS).

I'm doing my complete boss "rush"solo for the 1st time as Maxell now to investigate late content. Recently it was my 1st time to beat Klaus, Bee Queen, Nightmare Werepig, Shadow Chess. I'm also dying a lot and rollback a lot. Sometimes I'm so afraid of fights that I just frustrate (it's already day 400+ on my server).

 

List of my fails:

- loose my fully domesticated beefalo to a cave worm/hound wave because I'm not saddling him while they attack

- stay near lava pool for warm and don't notice it's not enough light so die to darkness

- simply don't manage to craft tourch/find light in inventory so die to darkness

- visit the ruins but run all the way home chased by 100500 nightmare creatures, monkeys and cave worms.

- don't have inventory space and can't choose what to throw away procrastination. Everything seems improtant.

- when joining public servers, overhelping till death (e.g. try to fight alongside with other player while not have proper gear/starving)

- when joining public servers, death to summer heat could happen

- when joining public servers and playing as Woodie, death to goose while investigating 

- death to spiders/mac tasks since I'm overconfident to fight them w/o armor on new servers looking for easy tusks/silk.

No one ever said that the game wasn’t hard, in fact there are times where it can be down right frustrating.. such as fighting crab king with a swarm of 40 bees only to have two rockjaws spawn and steal away most your bees aggro on him.

There are also times where you can quickly become overwhelmed by things going on in the world (such as needing armor to protect yourself from incoming DepthWorms but also needing Acid Rain Protection to avoid having that armor eaten alive by Acid) 

It can be very challenging even if your an expert veteran at the game, all it takes is forgetting one or two items and everything quickly goes downhill from there.

You can even intensify this experience by setting season starts and lengths to being highly randomized.

I think I tend to do the same tbh. I'm not very fast at hitting milestones but I guess I try to achieve them generally a bit quicker than before. Currently my primary goal has been turfing a new base on a wurt world before really doing anything else - I'm finding focusing on a decorated base is stretching out the gameplay when it's started early game. 

Difficulty-wise it's generally silly stuff, forgetting to make sure I have enough food is common before a boss for me. Same as just completely forgetting a light source (generally starcallers/icey bois) and convincing myself that it'll be fine. 

Not managing sanity is another big one for me, I forget it's just going to complicate things when i'm having to fight terrorbeaks mid boss fight.

Ooooph I forgot about depth worms, Yeah +1 to what Mike said - I'm not sure why but I always think it won't be bad to just fight them but I feel it's just so frustrating haha

I've got 4000+ hours in and I still play exclusively on endless because I die a lot. That's the game. If it was too easy, people wouldn't play very long.

the only people who said the game is easy is people that has forgotten how much they struggle to do anything before their X000 hours, people who watched every single guide in youtube and people who is bad at the game but want to look as the cooler kid in the internet

still, the characters are stronger after the refreshes and will be way stronger after skill trees while the day to day survival didnt change or even was slightly nerfed

as someone who has friends that are noobs at the game i never forget how hard is this game even with babysitting. Klei can't simply increase the difficulty without kicking new players out of the game (less when a bunch of casual sand boxes are filling the marked) so they can only add settings, hard mode after milestones, reworking biomes with different difficulties like the ruins or swamp, or maybe a future world progression (through the ages finally?), they could also add more challenge to summer since is a boring season and you need to have a minimum of experience to reach it

I'd say the game is easy for me now. But I will give it the benefit of the doubt, because I probably have more hours playing the game with Uncompromising Mode than I do without by this point. 

 

I've done a couple of vanilla worlds in that time. And the closest comparison would be those scenes in anime where it's revealed that a character was holding themselves back with weighted clothes the entire time.

 

This being said. Just because I recognize that the game is easy because I am good at it, this does not mean I think it should be easier as a whole. I am still vehemently against the direction the game is going for a variety of reasons that I have talked about before. If it was just the lowest levels of play, that would be one thing. But that's not the case, so I will continue to stand against it.

It was never difficult to me, just matter of learning patterns and strategies or even adding how much of each thing I need so I can precraft, rush, save time, got all skills I needed at 80 hours selfmade with just playing and could teach smart gamer friend in 2 hours how to be better than 90% of this community that got 100 mods making this game even easier.

Everyone learns with their own tempo.

I have a very clear memory of entering a tent with low health while a nightmare chases me, only to missclick by pressure, leaving the tent without enough health and insta dying.

Once I started a cc fight and forget to equip armour, I was hitless until the second phase and his spin attack hit me cause I missed the timing.

Last week I was on a wes run. I was preparing trees for armored bearger to help me cut them and a terrorbeak killed me because he showed up at the very corner while I was planting the trees at night, it was impossible to see it so I died. While I was haunting the life amulet, a lighting striked and burned all my loot and pinecones. While running at base, I was without armour, and the night came, I had no resources and a 0% lantern, so charlie took the laugh.

I played for years, probably a lot more than five thousand hours.

But my old computer had a lot of lag which caused spiders, dogs, nightmares and Deerclops to kill me frequently.

When I started the fight with Klaus it felt like my computer was going to explode.

I couldn't even make a big base, with farms or drying racks.

Now I have a better computer but I'm a little tired of playing.

it was autumn so red hounds

red hounds on boat was incredibly difficult but we managed to barely clutch it with grass rafts, improvised bait, and ice staffs

I'm still pretty new, probably 100-200 hours played in total, and yeah I'm still pretty crap at the game. I also play primarily on Switch, which really seems to steepen the learning curve.

I've yet to make it through the ruins or sail to lunar island successfully. The only bosses I've ever beaten on my own are Deerclops and Moose/Goose (and only Antlion and Eye of Terror in co-op). Most enemies completely obliterate me the first 3-4 times I encounter them and I frequently forget about stat/item management until it's too late.For me a successful game is one where I make it through all four seasons without dying.

I still have a lot of fun though. I'm also improving slowly but surely, so it's exciting to have the late game content to look forward to for when I get good.
