Am I the only one who feels like skill tree progression replaced character unlock progression?

in solo DS you started with only Wilson unlocked, and the more you played, died or idled still by a campfire- Exp added up and you permanently unlocked new better characters with unique skills to help you survive the game and its dangers more easily.

Flip the Script and we got DST- All characters are unlocked from the beginning, but.. again you can survive a bit, die a bit, or chill in the safety of your base a bit idle to once again: Gain Exp and unlock permanent upgrades that make you better than you were before.

I absolutely HATE the idea of making these a Once per world unlock, because it takes away this nod of familiarity.

If anything should be locked once per CHARACTER (Not World…) it’s CC & AFW affinities-

In fact: We could get actual detailed statistics of Exactly how many players have managed to kill CC & AFW and with which characters they used to do it, If the affinities were locked to once per character.

Ive never killed CC or AFW, but if Klei gives me a cool enough character perk tied to doing it, I’ll go out of my way to make ‘em Dead.

Wormwoods Saladmander summons is why I’m doing it in my Current world…

And it would be Cool to have to do that AGAIN as a different character, but once it’s unlocked for that character- It should stay unlocked indefinitely.

I think it would be interesting to make cc and fw defeats specific to one character's skill tree, meaning you have to defeat these bosses for each character and with each character that has a skill tree. However this would be hard to actually implement because people will cheat and use mods. You can just enter a private game and spawn these enemies and kill them, or you can use a mod that skips the entire process. If Klei could implement a system that checks your account's progression with each character, I think that would be pretty cool. I suppose it would be similar to how Klei tracks your spool count (no mod or cheating will allow you to get more spools).

Because it is unlikely that Klei will do this, I think the defeat of fw and cc should be a one-and-done situation for all your characters.

I like progression in games. In RPGs I don't want to be max level when I start the game. I want to progress and unlock skills over time as I do more things.

Perhaps they could tie insight to certain events or bosses in the game, like you gain insight once you defeat them or complete certain quests, rather than just getting them automatically over time.

There should be ways to unlock them faster, like killing bosses, though quests like this wont work, they have proven to be bad by dst themselves.

honestly?

i think skill trees shouldn't be unlocked forever.

they should be unlocked after defeating bosses (like 1 per every first time you kill a boss) and they should also be gained by prototyping for the first time near a science/magic machine.

the first craft near lunar altar and pseudoscience station should give 2 points.

this thing could make skills more immersive imo.

they could add an option in the skill tree menu when you are about to enter a world to reset the insight points for that world. In that way you can experience unlocking the points again throw gameplay without sacrificing the current system

the problem with this is that the way unlocking insight works is really bland, just waiting
