JustAFlower Posted November 1, 2023 Share Posted November 1, 2023 There are quadrillion more things on the surface than the caves, I making this topic mostly because that if Klei wants to go with corrupted bosses (which I'm totally in) would be better to get more cave bosses and environment interactions. In the caves so far we have : A rhinoceros, 2 skeleton bros, 2 frogs, a mean pig and a fruit fly if you count that. But that's it. There aren't really big cycles in the caves, the ruins cycle ? It's cool but it doesn't affect the whole cave than the moon (at least the moon is spreading all around the overworld). The guano biome, is boring, forests even have more content. The swamp is the same on the surface (why?). The muddy biomes they are cool on the ruin side...but a bit too empty-big ? The rock lobster biome..is a place I never go to. The mushroom forests, the ruins, the archive thing, the rock spider place are very fine, also the green biomes at the entrance of caves. It's a great way to make some players start in the caves. Oh there is also on the surface : the ocean, the seasonal bosses, the seasonal special interactions, more raid bosses, more mobs, more of everything... The caves : way less. If it's just because Klei has ran out of animal puns or other things then heck no, I can already imagine a King Spider, a Wormlotl or a giant turtle (kind of bee queen spawn style). Come here if you don't have patience to read, no shame in that : I am not here to pressure or begging for way more content like a maniac, they do what they want with their game, I just came here to place this topic to talk about this and spread my imagination (yay). I'm just sad that so many players live on the surface almost forever, and the caves are just here for the ruins loot. There is so much potential down there, and with the arc Klei is going with, we need this. Maxil20 Posted November 1, 2023 Share Posted November 1, 2023 I think my main issue with caves, apart from the lack of biome diversity (which it's a cave so I guess that makes sense…?) is just how difficult it is to build in the caves in most of the biomes, because of either having things you can’t remove (especially the unbreakable stalgmites, the bat caves, the nightmare fissures, and the depth dweller dens…) and how thin/stringy the caves get. There’s so many areas in the caves that are seperated by like 3-4 tiles of void that you have the option to walk around for 2 minutes to get to the other side, telepoof/soul hop, or use voidwalking. I really wish we got a way to remove various unremovables, and a dock turf equivlant for the caves. The biome being extremely tricky to build in is not giving it any favors for how people view the caves. It’s a bit sucky, since I actually personally really like the atmosphere down there a lot more then the surface, and gear like the enlightened crown/umbralla makes it much more tolerable to stay down there 24/7, it’s just building down there has always been a bit of a sour point and it’s not something I am usually super happy about, especially in biomes like the bat caves with just the sheer amount of obstacles you need to accommodate/work around. Please god yes I hate those impassable patches of void so much, and I do agree that building in the caves is annoying. They are likely to destroy irrepairable objects as time goes by. :v Hopefully future updates will make the way the rifts alter the world feel more organic. Difficult to imagine how the shadow side of things can be fleshed out when the caves are such an insular, specialized area. Usually I'll have a path from the most centralized sinkhole and stick to as straight a line as possible from it to either the ruins or archives. Rarely do I bother visiting the rest of the caves. When I go down there I have a specific task and I leave as soon as I am finished. Lightbulbs, fossils, mushrooms, werepig, toadstool, guardian, thulecite tech, archives, rabbit hutches, fuelweaver. Bananas for my first moon quay trip? That's about it I think. Personally I'd love more ruins/ancient city biomes. Maybe with more structure and stuff in them besides a million splumonkeys and broken clockworks. But I acknowledge the other biomes are very singular in nature and could be fleshed out.
