What the flip-flap is the sun?

Recommended Posts

Everyone is talking about anything in the don't starve franchise, but do we know what the sun actually is ?

I mean, yeah, it's responsible for the day and dusk phase (YOU'RE JOK-), the seasons (I think..?) and the Aporkalypse(the Aporkalypse is an eclipse if you didn't know) . But what the heck is it ? Is it just a Ball of fire like a Dwarf star but big ? Someone summoned this sun with a big Star Caller's staff ? I have those questions going in my mind and I dunno what to say.

I would probably be a maniac for wanting sun-cycles like the moon to get new season interactions, weather blablabla the whole content picture. But I want some interaction with the sun besides vitamin D and removing darkness. It can't just sit there. What do you think of the "sun" in ds.

(I realised while typing this that I sound like a gamer who hasn't seen sunlight in years xD)

First off, I love that "JustaFlower", with a picture of a SUNflower specifically, is the one asking about the sun.

Secondly I dunno what the sun itself is in the Don't Starve Cinematic Universe, but I do know that if you count the segments on the clock and kinda arbitrarily say that those could represent "hours", then the Constant's day is shorter than ours: sixteen hours to our 24.

So...faster-spinning planet? Or should I say "planet"? Also, there used to be a mod that gave a proper DAWN phase to the day as well as the dusk one, but it broke forever ago. A pity, that. I too would like more detail put into the day-ness of the game.

As for what the flip-flap-florp the Constant's sun is...your guess is as good as mine. As weird as everything in this universe is, it could be the freaking LIGHT BULB on the ceiling of the lab in some dupe's asteroid base that this simulation is all taking place in!
(I'm not saying it IS. I'm just saying that's not out of the realm of possibility. :P)

What is the sun? (takes a deep breath, starts cheerfully singing) "The Sun is a mass of incandescent gas, and it glows with a nuclear furnace!" wait

The sun is actually where the nightmare throne is. Think about it, where is the best place to hide from the light then the inside of what makes it?

Oh, so that would make Charlie like...whatsherface, from that one sci-fi book, who was an AI living INSIDE the sun, to keep tabs on it? Say hello to the photino birds for me. (I read weird stuff sometimes. :P)
I'm also kind of reminded of that bit in one of the Discworld books: "Everyone looks at what the light is showing them. They don't usually think to look at the LIGHT itself."

Sun is actually just a dead light source. It's the Moon who decides when to turn off the sun every night.

...this is just BEGGING for a cheesy "How many (blank)s does take to change a light bulb?" joke. Lemme see...

Got one. Q: How many Shadow Creatures does it take to change a light bulb?
A: Kind of a lot. They're not very bright.
