How exactly to dreadstone pillars work?

Recommended Posts

I've asked this in the past and basically was told that I didn't need to worry about them breaking because they automatically regenerated, and simply had a sanity aura. I checked the wiki (wiki.gg, not fandom) and it says there that the pillar repairs itself by draining your sanity, and now I don't know which is correct.

Edit: these things costing 40 dreadstone and unable to be crafted with the green amulet is so stupid, like yes I get it it's a late game megabase QoL item, so are lightning rods but you don't see those costing like 4 nightmare werepig fights.

They way pillars work is they have 10 free hits or something then after that cobblestone pillar starts to drop rocks and dreadstone begins to repair itself very slowly not sure if it needs to drain your sanity or not but it's basically infinite durability if you don't constantly load it (i heard both stories that it needs your sanity and also that it doesn't need it my guess would be it doesn't need it)

This is false. It gives off an insanity aura when it's repairing after the first 10 free hits. And I can also confirm that the dreadstone pillar will regen when offscreen; no player sanity needed at all.

Just dupe dreadstone with the armor, I munched down a few green gems doing so for my base.

It costs 3 full green amulets and staffs to dupe enough dreadstone for a single pillar. Assuming you craft the staves with green amulets, then it costs 7 green gems to be able to craft a single dreadstone pillar, not even beginning to account for other resources. I'm honestly shocked it made it out of beta, no single other craft in the game can even begin to compare to this cost. The next closest thing I can think of would be infused moon glass for the CC fight, but at least that's a fairly abundant resource.

You craft them into walls using a construction amulet and then bust down the walls using a boss. You can get 10 dreadstone per green gem, so a little over 4 green gems per pillar. 1 stack of green gems = ~9 pillars

I found it to be pretty fair, as it basically is a one time investment for an important area, and you'll be swimming in dreadstone once you activate the shadow rifts.

I don't know about swimming.. You get 10-12ish per werepig fight (right?) and you get 3 for each dreadstone outcrop you destroy.

Interesting.. might be time for some dreadstone duping me thinks.
