Thankfully they don't do monthly updates anymore, they were really lacking.

Next update will probably be announced in late august or early September, released somewhere in September hopefully.
And the final update of the year will be probably be around December, most likely with Winter's feast.

In the last beta, they previewed Wurt/Winona and then only got complaints on the Forum. Maybe they changed it because of that.

Not recently:

Pretty sure these were the last two streams for content updates, and they were announced the day before.

Most recent update we've got is this, as of the Intermission at the start of the month:

"The team is currently working on a bunch of Cave content for you. We can't quite call this one a QOL - this is shadow related content that will introduce a bunch of new threats and rewards to the caves.  

We'll want to talk about that pretty soon, so in a few weeks, we'll have some more information for you. Maybe in a post, maybe a stream, maybe a beta? Who knows what we'll do?! Well, we do. But we'll tell you later."

It could still be this week, but it's likely not a stream. iirc Klei's forum posts are usually in about 18 hours or so, so a forum post or Beta is still possible for tomorrow IMO, but not a stream as those are announced 24 hours in advance, and the time has passed. The other two are still possible as they aren't given prior warning.

So maybe for this week depending on the format, almost certainly next week if not.

It's so painful to expect new updates, we used to get them every month, but now only beta every 2.. It's funny that let's say Minecraft gets full-fledged updates that are self-sufficient, but we are rather pieces of large content divided into updates with additional innovations. I don't know if it's good or not

It's complicated IMO.

Minecraft at its best? The worldgen updates like Caves & Cliffs and the nether update absolutely eclipse anything DST by completely overhauling worldgen. It would be as if Klei reworked ruins gen, completely revamped caves biomes and added a whole new section like the archives.

Minecraft right now? They're basically DST updates that come once a year. The only particularly memorable thing from the last 3 or so updates imo are the trial chambers, which are comparable to setpieces like the Junkyard, and the sakura forests, which are only noticable bc they're aesthetically pretty.

Other than that, I massively prefer DST's update path because it feels like it's building on each other, rather than Minecrafts absolute refusal to powercreep Diamond and the end, which has resulted in loot being underwhelming for a vast majority of new content.

I mean, nothing is inherently stopping you from going and playing other things/taking up other hobbies while waiting for the new update(s). I myself haven’t really minded their current schedule as it gives me an excuse to pursue other things while waiting for the update to come out. I love this game, but it’s nice to play other games in between the updates to avoid getting too burned out on DST.

You're right. My problem is not that I really want updates to be released as early as possible, but in some promises from developers that have been delayed a lot. If you didn't know, they plan to make a whole gang of sharks out of sharkboy this year and even almost added it to this update, but said they didn't have time to do it and postponed it again for an unspecified period. There is also an example of a lunar hail that was under development at about the same time as sharkboy. Don't get me wrong, I don't want to be rude about KLEI updates, it's just that as a fan of Sharkboy and Rift Content, it's not very pleasant to wait for what we could have gotten 4-5 months ago.I just want them to make the promised content and continue to quietly enjoy the announcements of updates for my favorite game
