I tested the Treeguard Idol against all bosses

My phase 1 Treeguards must not be well positionned (they're pretty much all from the same direction), because if I wait for them to spread like on the video before luring CC on a tree, it might aggro a random Treeguard and then just focus on it, making it a pain to have the right placement for phase 2. The 3rd phase is also luck-based because either the Treeguards the CC aggroed on the 2nd phase get finished after a while (even when staying out of the Great Gestalt attack range), either the CC enlightening snare attack doesn't aggro enough of them, and then the wandering ones are practically unusable because they spread too much. I use 20 Treeguard

Anyway I'll still add it to the list, because I believe the more tentatives you get the more reliable you can be!

Not sure if you know this or not but Woodie is now effectively a swap character, yes you need to be him to craft the Tree Idols, but ANYONE Can burn and use them.. so Wolfgang and Wanda just indirectly got even more OP.

Why would you use tree guards when your character is best at combat....

Anyways, I'll just add my 2 cents here.

For phase 1, Spread is not required. You must stand close to cc when it spawns, so that cc aggros on you, so that you can lead it to a tree, so that it can chop a tree in front of treeguards. cc aggros to what's closest to it.

For phase 3, Make sure trees don't walk too far away. The ideal range is within falling shard attack range. The shards can reliably trigger at least 2/3 of the trees. And 2/3 of the trees should be enough to kill cc (I guess?). But the bottom line, there is techniques that can alleviate the influence of luck. The video didn't do a good job in explaining it.

Same reason some one might would want to use Winona’s Catapults or Warlys food dishes.

mike thats quite an absurd take

by the time you have the ability to craft bulk tree guard idols and do character swaps, you could easily have crafted a few catapults/houndius for an exponentially easier way to kill bosses

the tree guard idols really only work well with woodie too, due to the double damage he does to treeguards with the skill, along with the aoe charge of the moose being one of the main ways to dispel the treeguards afterwards

its like swapping to willow specifically to craft a bunch of bernies: sure you can do it, but its generally not worth it when the bone helm exists as an item that doesnt need the sewing kit upkeep that bernie requires

Actually… Crafting Tree Idols is quite easy, even early game.. you don’t even need any high tier Gear to do it, you can stand in a graveyard by a Pipspook to drain sanity, hop in and out of a wormhole, etc.. and then at 30 Sanity, Woodie Spawns Crawling Horrors, they’re easy to kill and your sanity shouldn’t dip low enough for the Terrorbeaks to even spawn.

Once you get your first Darksword you can just hold it in hand to drain sanity till Crawling Horror Spawns and rinse/Repeat.

Theres also Moose Charging/Beaver tail pounding Pig/Merm heads on sticks during a full moon that will supply you with Nightmare fuel in a relatively noobish way.. 

And if you have the Tree Idol Unlocked, you have the Faster Killing of them and more frequent spawning of them perks too.

Something worth noting is that you don’t need a tree idol PER Treeguard, you can burn only two tree idols and still end up with 3 or more tree guards spawning.

In my particular case.. I made 5 idols then switched to Wendy, used Xbox’s Target locking feature to single out the boss and command Abby to Attack it, With Abby And the Treeguards both attacking the boss you’ll make short work of said boss.
