  1. Hello everyone, hope you're doing great. This is my first time posting in these forums, and what better way than to post a little tutorial of mine. So I've had this idea for a while now, while fighting Pugalisk I noticed that he destroyed the area I was fighting him in, what if that area was full of trees then ? that's when it hit me, I can make a tree farm this way, and it turned out to be so much better than the old Old Bell method everyone is using. so I made a video on how I did it so I hope you enjoy it: for the thumbnail I used fellow user Altari's Pugalisk artwork. Hope you don't mind, if you do tell me and I'll remove it.
  2. I've played with people who, well, kinda don't really care about the resources they take... And this annoys me than it should... So, going strait for it: LOGS... more precisely, STUMPS... generally, TREES. When some players chop down trees, I politely ask them to cut the big ones as it will yield more logs and more pine cones... they agree, to this but as soon as I'm out of sight, they chop even the small one... that cute little one that yields 1 log... I come back to where they've been chopping and find stumps... they don't even bother pulling up the stumps (even after we have shovels)... What's more annoying is that they don't replant... I mean chop the big one and dig out the stump for 4 logs and 2 pine cones... replant one to replace the one you took down and save the one you have to do whatever you want... place near a base to make a charcoal farm, use for kindling... pacify a Treeguard! And then they complain about not having enough trees... Is this like an OCD, or is it justifiable? But if you're trying to clear out an area to make your base/farm I guess that's justifiable... but Should we or should we not encourage replanting trees in general?
  3. Army of Treeguards :O

Decided to start a game with Wendy while playing I noticed a Treeguard when I went to investigate more there was a whole bunch of them ha
  4. I just wanted to share a couple of crazy and (possibly) funny stories that happened to me while I was playing Don't Starve. Hopefully whoever reads these will enjoy them. The Great Beefalo Massacre (before the winter update)One day, while Wilson cut down trees, a giant Treeguard woke up. Wilson ran away from it and towards a pig village, having discovered with the last Treeguard that pigs automatically attack them. The pigs that spotted the Treeguard were killed in one swipe, the Treeguard losing interest in Wilson afterwards. Later, Wilson ran into his first herd of Beefalo, but he could not shave them since they were in heat. However, Wilson came up with idea to lure the Treeguard to the Beefalo herd in order to get some of their wool.Wilson reached the Treeguard near the start of night, so he built a fire. Unfortunately, Wilson got another not-so-brilliant idea while waiting for morning. Wilson's idea backfired, burning down all the trees in the area and angering the Treeguard into trying to kill Wilson. When dawn arrived, Wilson began running towards the savannah, stopping every now and then to let the Treegaurd catch up. Wilson even had time to pick up the Ring thing needed to complete the Teleportato, though that would have to happen later.Eventually, Wilson reached the Beefalo's territory with the Treeguard not that far behind. While Wilson ran through the savannah, one Beefalo chased him for a bit, but that Beefalo soon joined the rest of the herd in attacking the Treeguard. Wilson had thought that the Beefalo would kill the Treeguard. However, the Treeguard took down Beefalo after Beefalo. The only Beefalo left alive were six babies. The Treeguard then wandered off as Wilson began collecting his spoils. Wilson, however, heard something coming from the south and decided to investigate. To Wilson's surprise, a pig had killed the Treeguard. Wilson then finished gathering the spoils of the battle and headed back to his campsite.THE ENDRevenge of the KoalephantWilson had discovered the creature's tracks on the second day and had decided to follow them as he scouted out the edge of the island. Wilson discovered the Koalephant as twilight set in, and he came up with a plan to kill the creature. Wilson set up a campfire and stayed away from the creature, waiting for it to fall asleep. When night came and the Koalephant did fall asleep, Wilson used his torch to set the creature on fire. In a frenzy, the creature ran around, catching a carrot and a bit of grass on fire. However, the Koalephant did not die and eventually fell asleep again after Wilson startled it into running further away. Wilson figured that the creature could not be that strong. Wilson couldn't possibly need to build a science machine, even if he did have a piece of gold to make, to kill the Koalephant, right? Within two attacks, the Koalephant killed poor Wilson.THE END
  5. Welcome to the league of forum members persuading youtubers to let's play Don't stare thread..If there one sole thing we forum members can all agree on is that this game is awesome and that we want it to do well so with story mode right around the bend I present this thread with the sole purpose of figuring out how to get famous let's players to play (and of course record) the game..targets:PewdiepieTobyGamesSeaNannersUberHaxorNovaNerd3have already covered the game:YogscastTotalBiscuitxXSlyFoxHoundXxEthoobously there are tons of LPers out there so I cant list everyone if you know of a good LP target post it so they can be added (remeber try to focus on those who tend to lean toward the correct kind of game)
  6. Making the map larger doesn't actually make it harder to camp, you could simply huddle in the corner.Preventing players to camp takes a lot of thinking, making the land large doesn't really do it.

  8. hello I was just playing today, a treeguard appeared and it killed me I couldnt do anything, I had log armor on, I tried cutting it down like a normal tree as stupid as that may have been, I tried killing it with a spear, I lit it on fire, I even ran away all day seeing if it would go away eventually though it killed me at night time because i couldnt refuel my fire...what is a good way to survive when you come against one of them
  9. At the moment one of the biggest problems in don't starve is that it is incredibly easy to pick one "good" survival strategy and stick with it forever. You can plant 30 berry bushes by a herd of beefolo and just camp there, you can camp beside a rabbit town and trap them forever, you can harvest a pig village, or hunt monsters forever . . . There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this but it seems like there should be some penalty for a lack in variety. To address this issue I suggest a food triangle of Meat, Fruit, and Vegetables. As you eat one kind of food too much it becomes less nourishing while other types of food go up in value. So if all your eating is rabbit meat all meat slowly becomes less nourishing by a growing percentage. A tasty morsel still feeds you less than cooked meat, but all of them are less nourishing then they started as. If you switch over to farming berries then all fruit slowly starts becoming less nourishing while meat starts slowly going up in value again. Eventually it's veggies from your garden that are the "best" food, at least for a while. To really make this idea shine more types of food should be added with different tiers like what meat has now. Perhaps berries get nerfed down to be less filling, and we add in apple trees which are slower to regenerate but feed you the way berries do now, and wild cherries which lay somewhere in the middle. Vegetables could also come in tiers with wild carrots being joined by peas, tomatoes, and farmed vegetables from your farms at the top of the list. Each of the tree basic food groups would then be more fully fleshed out and you'd have incentive to either mix up your strategy or become more efficient at farming, hunting, and orchard management over time. Obviously I wouldn't want to decrease the value of a food completely at any point, as that would result in FORCING the player to change their style rather than having to simply decide whether to become more efficient or change their strategy. A good medium might be to reduce a food types value by a maximum of 60 percent. That makes it really beneficial to mix up your strategy, or have a balanced play style, but it also allows you to "survive" using just one strategy if you get especially good at it.
  10. I finally managed to get a game to last more than 50 days, and I was cutting down some trees in a small area that I have designated for it -- I try not to let the trees grow too large, just as a small way to hopefully stave off Optimus Pine. But as I was cutting down some of the trees TWO tree guards popped up at once! I managed to appease them by planting four pinecones as I was running around in the dark. So, lucky for me they don't jump up if you put a campfire right next to them! My question is: Why the heck do they drop MEAT of all things when they die? That's just.....creepy.
