Should insight be moved to reset on a new world?

Recommended Posts

One problem that I have had is a new player is just going to have a worse Wolfgang or Woodie then someone who has played them for 160 days. My suggestion is that you start with 3 insight and you gain insight from doing stuff in the world, and this would do 2 things. ( I think 3 starting insight is just so some of the abilities that are only good for the first season are not just worthless like Wilson's torch tree)

1. Make things inline with normal don't starve things, items equipment and more importantly prototyping don't carry over from world to world. It's weird that something that is not fully knowledge based like the cookbook is just allowed to carry over.

2. Keep stuff like Weremoose Woodie from being so strong day 1. By locking max power by at least 1 point they cant ruin every boss as soon as they get an idol they need to get 2 idols.

For the insights I think this could also work as a guild for newer player as despite the scrapbook how is any new player supposed to know to the lunar grotto or the atrium. I think there should be 3 ways to get insight with being able to get 5 from each category. (Maybe don't give 3 starting insight)

1. This category is just like normal insight gain. You gain insight from hitting mile stones of living. 1 for autumn(the first 20 days just to make sure they gain at least 1 by making it to winter),1 living through winter spring and summer. 1 for 100 days and 200 days ect to 500 just encase they have seasons turned off. This may just want to be changed to 25 50 75 and 100 respectively, but with seasons the descriptions  you could list what they would need to survive the seasons. As far as I can tell the console versions already have ways to track day count at least.

2. Giant fighting is an obvious choice. 1 insight for every boss in the boss tab. easy

3. Discovery. This is the most important tab for new player and can give hints for some of the more obscure stuff. 1 insight point for the ruins, grotto/ archive, monkey island, lunar island, and  the atrium. Give little hints on how to find them in character as Wilson or something, the loading screen tips are not really helpful enough. There should also be insight for making making the lunar altars, finding the buried lunar altar pieces and making a odd skeleton.

This is obviously very rough and would take more developer time. So it's really just more me being like hey this would be cool.

The reward reserved between worlds has always been a part of DS, and we've just regained it.

In fact, share between worlds are the only point of Insight's mechanics, otherwise developers could replace them with old way like exclusive crafting items.

Insight should have an in game way of being reset. The portal feels like an oversight that's either being left in as a placeholder until a proper method is developed, or Klei was going to change but decided it'd be easier to just leave it as is.

Don't Starve is a coop game and not a competitive game, idk why this should be considered an issue.

Pretty sure it's a place holder of sorts

idk, i imagine some sort of toxicity created through not having certain skills or whatever:

like a new woodie joining a server, and someone asking for the discount walking canes even though that new woodie hasnt even interacted with skill trees yet (too confusing for them)

or from actual experience, a wilson who didnt have any transmutation skills leading to slight frustration between the other players who were hoping to transmute some hounds teeth, gems, etc.

i feel like its gonna create a divide for not playing a character at their objective highest abilities with skill trees, and not having a skill tree unlocked would be comparable to intentionally picking wes and hindering everyone

but thats just my take feel free to correct me lol

I think if people actually got angry at people for not being their craft servant i think those people shouldn't play at all or play the character they want the ability of

It's an issue because this update was meant to make the game easier for newer players. It obviously caters to the long survivors. So.

I feel like they should keep Wilson special. Where once you learn his skills you don't have to do it again. Cause he's a scientist ya" know? But for all the others it's insight per world.

It would give Wilson his special thing again.
