Is the Quick Picker III worth it? (Woodie skill tree)

Recommended Posts

I'm testing Woodie skill tree, and most of the time I end with 3 "points" to use in Lumberjack skills, I tried Quick Picker III since I like to use Woodie as a gatherer but, how much faster does he collect stuff? +10% each level?

I'd go 100% of the time all 3 in treeguard feller.

Second option if I have some other points to spare I'd go carving and wooden cane. Maaaaybe if I'm going to do something fancy like try to make an army of bunnymen by myself, or team up with a Wurt or a Webber, I'd go the helmets. The wood cane you'll most likely respec out once you or the people in your server start getting actual tusk canes.

The quick pick is not fast enough to make a difference in my experience. Tier 3 should be instant (Like that quick pick mod) or close to that.

Idk how fast exactly it is but I think it goes something like Quick Picker I & II make you harvest 10% faster each and the third is 20% faster. So, if you go into it at all you'd get the most bang for your buck picking up all 3 at almost twice as fast gathering of grass, twigs, berry bushes, etc.

It really depends on what you wanna do though. If you don't plan on ever changing your skill tree and want to set up grass gecko and twiggy farms then it's a waste to take, but it can be a big time saver early on and you can change it later once you get celestial portal up. It's similar to the philosophy behind the walking stick.

I would use it, especially for large replanted grass/twigs/monkeytails. My specific build would be:

* 4 points in the duration/idol tree

* 3 points in the beaver tree

* 4 points in the moose tree

* 1 point in the goose tree

* 2 points in the faster gathering tree

* 1 point in the shadow affinity tree

I believe the best day 1 build for woodie is:

  • 4 points in increased weretime/curse embracer
  • 4 points in moose tree
  • 1 point in goose tree
  • 3 points in quick gathering
  • 2 points in Lucy board and walking stick
  • 1 point in shadow affinity

The beaver form just isnt worth investing in at all in the early game as monster meat is better spent on the goose form for exploring and moose for clearing ruins. I feel quick gathering is most useful during the early game when combined with the walking stick to quickly get a 40 stack of grass and twigs each for prototyping a whole load of stuff. You can rush celestial portal really easy as Woodie to switch around skills as needs be later on.

Unless you have that mod we all have :-D

Youu cant? Lol talking about after you have killed fuelweaver some other time ofc....

Also this is my alternative day 1 woodie build the "dark sword, follower build":

  • 4 points in increased weretime/curse embracer
  • 4 points in beaver tree
  • 1 point in goose tree
  • 3 points in tree feller
  • 3 points in Lucy board, walking stick and hardwood hat.

This build ignores moose form and relys on you farming loads of living logs for dark swords with tree feller 3 and beaver tail slap for tons of logs for hardwood hats for pigs/bunnymen. Better build for the early base builders and for rushing bee queen with armoured pigs/bunnymen.

Picking something at level 3 takes 55% of the time it would take to pick something without skills. This is not accounting for the time it takes to walk between plantables, which can be rather significant.

As a comparison, here is Woodie picking 80 plantables with no skills vs. with quick picker III:

Thanks a lot for the video.

So that 17 seconds saved per stack (40) of grass or twigs, which saves 32% of the time.

I imagine myself picking probably 20 stacks of grass or twigs per long term server (several hundreds of days up to thousands), which saves up to 340 seconds, or 5,6 minutes. Doubling it is 10 min. Really not a lot, in my opinion.

Thanks a lot for the info. Btw I had an idea thinking about what can make Quick Picking more interesting, what if Quick Picking III also have a 30% of one extra item? I mean, most of the stuff if not all that you can pick by hand are basic materials or berries, so giving Woodie a 30% chance to get 1 more doesn't sound crazy and make investing points to Quick Picking III more interesting.... I think...

Man, i think its so cool that we’re able to share our build ideas because there’s actually multiple good options and choices to be made. This should be the the goal with all the skilltree updates.

Yeah that vs killing tree guards twice as fast which probably actually saves you more time in total.

Imo, there aren't enough lumberjack skills. I really dislike curses since his refresh. I miss the old woodie so being able to focus entirely on lumberjack would be amazing for me.

very nice, thanks for the detailed info. does it work for picking up items off the ground, or only for picking grass, twigs and other plantables?

As far as I can tell, it only affects plantables and a few miscellaneous things that share the same picking animation (i.e. picking starcaller/mooncaller staff from moon stone, ancient key from ancient gateway).

It does not affect anything with the insta-pick animation (i.e. picking something off the ground, picking carrots/flowers), it also doesn't affect anything while riding a beefalo.
